Bookshelf consoles

Post by Svovl »

Most of my consoles have moved to the livingroom and have been hooked up with my projector.
Here's a look at the shelf they live in.
I might post a pic of the whole room when its a bit more tidy :-)

Target stores used to offer a nifty bookshelf, which was made up of nine sections, or cubes. I had a console in each cube; only problem with bookshelf storage is that it usually requires controller extension cords. I'm sure Ikea probably has something similar.

I wanted to do something like this some odd years ago, but I realized controllers would be a problem. Of course if you have wireless controllers for all those systems you should be good.

I just have my controllers in a chest of drawers together with most of my games and pull them out and plug them in when I need them.

What about the cables? They always make things look messy to me.
Did you cut holes in the back of the bookshelf for the cables?

I just loosened the back of the bookshelf a bit in the one side and then taped the cables along the bottom of the shelves.

For the cube setup I mentioned, only the center cube had a back to it. The border cubes were completely open in the back. Of course, the backside of this bookshelf looked horrendous, a wasteland of wires.

I did use a standard bookshelf in college, and did indeed cut holes in the back of each shelf.

I have one of these staring at me right now:

But with books and DVDs on instead. But its a very nice unit, and could work well for consoles because of the open back, if you don't see too many dangling cables.
