Most of my consoles have moved to the livingroom and have been hooked up with my projector.
Here's a look at the shelf they live in.

Target stores used to offer a nifty bookshelf, which was made up of nine sections, or cubes. I had a console in each cube; only problem with bookshelf storage is that it usually requires controller extension cords. I'm sure Ikea probably has something similar.
I wanted to do something like this some odd years ago, but I realized controllers would be a problem. Of course if you have wireless controllers for all those systems you should be good.
For the cube setup I mentioned, only the center cube had a back to it. The border cubes were completely open in the back. Of course, the backside of this bookshelf looked horrendous, a wasteland of wires.
I did use a standard bookshelf in college, and did indeed cut holes in the back of each shelf.
