Even though I can't decide between PS1 and DC, I think I'm gonna put in a vote for PS1. I have such a soft-spot for the underdog.

A modded PS2 cannot play other region PS1 discs (legit ones). Maybe it's just my PS2, though?
There are homebrew applications you can download to get it working.

Wow, that is really hard. I'd probably keep the PS1, just because that's the console I grew up with (although I never actually had one until just recently - I had to play at friends' houses. I wasn't allowed a game console until about 2004, when I got a PS2. Or was it 2003? I don't remember). Still, I REALLY like them all.

It was hard choosing between the PS1 and Dreamcast, but the Playstation does have a larger library of games.
NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Xbox 360, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS Lite, DSi, GB, GBA SP, Dreamcast, and 2600.

Consider these three points: scarcity, replace-ability, and emulation.

Scarcity
PS1 - Every time I turn over a stone, I find a dozen PS1s underneath.
Saturn - By far the scarcest of these three
Dreamcast - Fairly common at flea markets and garage sales

Replace-ability
PS1 - Easy to replace the console and the games. Replacing the mod-chip is a challenge if you don't know how to solder.
Saturn - Replacing this would be quite a challenge; replacing the games would be an ever greater challenge.
Dreamcast - Easy enough to replace the system and games.

Emulation
PS1 - Any modern PC can emulate the PS1 with ease.
Saturn - The two processor design makes the Saturn a nightmare to emulate. I've tried a few different emulators, and none seem to work very well.
Dreamcast - Can be emulated with the proper software.

Given these three points, I vote Saturn. Keep your Saturn, you can emulate the rest and replace them later if need be.

The Saturn sold 9,5 million units world wide (3:1 ratio between Japan and US sales) while the Dreamcast sold 10,6 million units world wide (I reckon the Japan:US:EU ratio is pretty much the same with Saturn). The difference isnt very noticeable, considering the PS1 sold over 100 million units.

Actually, in Japan, the Saturn did great, and the Dreamcast did terribly. So, the ratio is actually completely backwards! :P

Any idea how many consoles they sold in Japan then? According to Wikipedia the Saturn sold over 6m in Japan and 2m in USA. The rest of the 1,5m were probably mostly EU, Canada and AUS+NZ, maybe Brazil? I knew that Saturn was a lot more succesful in Japan than in America and Europe, but I never knew Dreamcast did terribly there :o
