Genesis Plus GX Sega CD Support.
Re: Genesis Plus GX Sega CD Support Coming Very Soon.
(UPDATE)

Looks as though ekeeke finished back-porting the Sega CD implantation to fit the Wii's credentials! He stated on Jun 17 that he was satisfied with the current state of the new CD core and to expect a release soon, so I predict that a release is pretty intimate now!
However, the initial release will not support Redbook audio sadly, though he plans on implementing it in a later release.

Anyway, version 1.7.0 is up to download. I hope to add audio track support soon so this can be more enjoyable in some way.

any chance legit games can be booted from the Wii's disc drive? or will this be SD/USB only?

SD/USB only. The Wii's drive is incapable of reading CD's.

Yup it's true.
You could burn a Sega CD game onto a DVD and load it, however that doesn't seem to purposeful when it's not the original disk.

Any updates on this? I ran across this thread, and it has me VERY interested.
Re: Genesis Plus GX Sega CD Support.
You probably already know this, but the initial release is out.
There have also been a couple of updates done in source changes which can be viewed here (everything beyond the 1.7.0 release is new)

Ekeeke is also trying to add CDDA support for the emulator. Progress for this can be viewed here,

Re: Genesis Plus GX Sega CD Support.
Oh awesome, did not realize this was out now.
So, would I download the emulator from the homebrew channel, or will an update pop up for the emulator I already have installed?
Definitely want to try out some Android Assault!
