Amazing Sega Saturn platformers
Re: Amazing Sega Saturn platformers
What about Mr. Bones? I've never played it, but I've seen a video of it. It looks like an interesting platformer.

A lot like Astal, it's more visually interesting than it is in play. It's an FMV game, and is as clunky as you'd expect it to be. Really neat regardless though.greg wrote:What about Mr. Bones? I've never played it, but I've seen a video of it. It looks like an interesting platformer.

It's visually and audibly a great experience, IMO. There's one annoying level, but so many fun ones likegreg wrote:What about Mr. Bones? I've never played it, but I've seen a video of it. It looks like an interesting platformer.
Re: Amazing Sega Saturn platformers
You know, the Saturn just wasn't necessarily a haven for platformers. Some of the more generic ones, like Pandemonium or Skeleton Warriors, were cross platform with the PS1. Fighters, racers, and 3d titles drove developers away from some of the classic 2D modes (not fighters, mind you). Not entirely, thank goodness, but there was a lot of untapped potential for platformy goodness that just wasn't realized.

I find your case underwhelming. Please do adjust your tone around here. We don't deal well with folks who go out deliberately looking for disagreements.PresidentLeever wrote: No. It's not very good, to me, because of the reasons I stated. You seem to agree with most of them.
Also notice the 'Amazing' in the thread title. You could say Astal is the 'rain' on this parade
Just a little moderator advice...

I know, but he's being feisty to ME.
I do need to acknowledge that I was a little snarky, too, so you can consider me self-notified as well.

@Ryan, its not totally an FMV game though there are some FMV levels, some rhythm levels, platforming and some really odd levels that beggar description. You are right though that overall its pretty clunky. Thats not to say that I dont love it though

I'm relieved, since I did not think PresidentLeever was out-of-hand at all. He stated his opinion without being insulting or hostile.marurun wrote:I know, but he's being feisty to ME.

For coming out in '95 I think Astal is an alright platformer. I remember picking it up for only $10 and being blown away by the awesome visuals! Sure its short and its an average platformer at best but it did a lot of things right to make it memorable. Must be starting to become a collectors item too cuz I just saw it last Saturday at a local game shop for $30! Its a good game for $10 but $30 is too much.
I have Legions and besides the funny live action cut scenes I didn't find the game all that much fun. I was expecting game mechanics like Shinobi 3 on the Genesis(One of my favs on that system) but was sadly disappointed. Hitting back shurikens with your sword was a nice touch tho.
