Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
Does any one know if JP or US CD attachment works on the PAL console?
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
As I noted, I'm pretty sure the PAL consoles are just factory modded ones for the TV output portion. US and J CD units are not compatible with each other. The US plug is D shaped and the J one is square with some tabs in the ends. I think the pins are the same so you could possibly mod the sockets/plugs. But they're not going to work off the shelf.Menegrothx wrote:Does any one know if JP or US CD attachment works on the PAL console?

Most US games should work. I'm not sure if quite everything does. I haven't heard of fans giving it extensive tests.Curlypaul wrote:Well I've learnt something, I always assumed that the TG was the 8bit predecessor to the 16. So if I get one of these the US games will work with it and if I can find a Hu card convertor I can play the PC engine games on it. Thats def worth a purchase I reckon.
As far as I'm aware, there was zero known software commercially developed for PAL Turbografx. Not one PAL game confirmed to have been in even pre-production at some point. Let alone screenshots or a prototype surfaced. Not a single line of code in any US or JP game that had specific intent to run on the PAL console.
Lum fan.
Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
Yeah I've been reading, and Telegames unofficially imported them from the US and modded them to run at 50hz (and presumable changed the PSU as well).
I remember the main multiformat magazines of the time all covered the console, although they always referred to it as the PC Engine.
The converters for the cards seem pretty damn exspenive (on ebay atm for £75), so I think I'll mod it when I run out of US games to play.

Well just ordered one - paid extra for faster delivery, so hopefully here before Saturday night. I've had a tough week at work, so looking forward to opening up a brand new box and playing some Blazing Lazers
I'm torn over which level of completeness to go for with the games - do I want the outer cardboard box, the jewel case and manual or just the card? The cardboard box seems to double the price of these things

I have difficulty even finding games in the jewel case, which is what I try to aim for. Card only seems a bit easy to misplace.Curlypaul wrote:Well just ordered one - paid extra for faster delivery, so hopefully here before Saturday night. This is true, I'm torn between going for the jewel cases and instructions and just game only. I'm sure I could find some sort of folder to keep the loose games in.
Kind of upsets me as I've never deliberately bought anything loose before. You never know it might be liberating for me, my attic is packed with flipping boxes.

You can use those for game boy games (and I'm pretty sure Game Gear, NGPC, and Master System Card games) too.

Damn I would so buy one of these if the shipping wasn't so high.
