Hi KoL,
Treasure of the Ruldras is supposed to be the best Squaresoft RPG that never made it over here. At least that what I have heard. I haven't spent much time on it, myself. Treasure Hunter G is a Squaresoft game made by Sting, the company that made Riviera and Yggdra Union on the GBA, Knights in the Nightmare on the DS, and now the new Gungnir for the PSP which I really want to get. Anyhow, Treasure Hunter G is almost like a strategy game, moving about on a grid and striking at adjacent square sections.
Speaking of strategy games (SRPGs), there are a LOT of these as well, but maybe those belong in their own thread topic.
Yesterday I picked up a stack of 5 SFC games for only 380 yen. They were shrink-wrapped together and sold as-is because perhaps they could not get them to work when they tested them. I cleaned them with alcohol last night and if that doesn't work, I'll use an emory board to clean the contacts. That usually brings the games to life. (I wish I knew about that 11 years ago when I had a Zenki game with box and manual, but the game didn't work. I think I threw it out. At the time, I wasn't familiar with Zenki. So foolish...) Anyhow, all I knew is that the pack of cartridges contained Battle Pinball and Dragon Quest VI. The other three games, it turns out, were Street Fighter II and Elfaria 1 and 2. The last two are also Japan-only RPGs, but I haven't played them yet (I either need to get my computer working or buy a TV before I can use my SNES again).
The thing about my hard drive is that my friend suggested formatting it as a dynamic hard drive so that I could install Fedora on it and create a dual-boot Windows/Linux system. However, that never happened. Using a SATA to USB converter, I was able to view the contents of the main hard drive, but the one with the special formatting (the one with ALL of my data) is the dynamic one. I'm sure everything is fine, but I must boot a system with the main hard drive's OS in order to view its contents. Grr. So until then, I can't make any more game-related videos with the capture card.
GD Leen (Gadurin) is another Japan-only RPG. I only played a bit of it, and it seems similar to the premise of Star Ocean 1&2 (a science-fictiony soldier winds up on a backwater planet, etc). His starship crashes on a planet and befriends the locals and goes on an adventure. Combat looks similar to Dragon Quest rather than Final Fantasy, and your character can attack with a space rifle while others use swords and such. The Wikipedia article for the game is
here. I
thought I remembered an anime by the name of GD Leen, and I was right! I've never looked at this Wiki article before.
I think I'll go back to that shop I was at yesterday sometime soon. It's called Kanteidan, located in Shizoka City, and
it is freaking awesome. I live in Fuji City, and the only time I ever find any SFC games, it's always boring-ass dime-a-dozen games like pachinko, horse racing, soccer, and the occasional mahjong game. Kanteidan has a solid selection of retro games. They were a bit weak on the Megadrive selection, but they had tons of PCE, Saturn, DC, FC, and SFC games. I also bought Earth Light 2 and Asameshi Mae Nyanko there, boxed, for REAL LOW CHEAP.
PS: Some asshat in India stole my second SFC video, 100 Super Famicom games in 10 minutes part 2 and put it up on his own YT channel. If anyone ever comes across that one (no description available, only negative comments etc), be sure to thumb that video down. Apparently all of that guy's videos are stolen from other channels, so it's a mix of video games and his bad taste in music. YouTube won't do a thing about it, either. Makes me mad.
