As someone who didn't really play RE back in the day I found the original didn't really age well. I liked the Gamecube remake a lot more. Then again I have a low tolerance for early 3D graphics and the horrible voice acting of the PlayStation version is worth experiencing.

I don't know, I thought while it was the same setting, same story, it was by far from being the same game. It kicks way more ass then the original but I felt that there were enough changes that it wasn't even close to being the same.

That being said, I say go with the original on PS1 first. Like the original, original, not the Director's Cut. I still play through it once in a while for kicks because I love it so much.
Mikami stated that it was more of a reimagining just like Siren Blood Curse was to Forbidden Siren.

How could anyone not like the cheesy moments in the original game?

I said it was worth experiencing. That was a pro for the original game. Forgive my awkward sentence structure there  .

Start with the first and go all the way thru the series. Starting with 4 it became a 3rd person shooter with less of the exploration element. Operation Racoon City is next for me then Part 6. Ive played the rest in order. I believe one came out or handhelds or is coming out. I don't really pay much attention to what comes out on Handhelds.

Resident Evil 1
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil: Survivor (not good)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica (X)
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City
Resident Evil 6

You've got alot to get thru :D

The cheesey bits of that game is what makes it so fantastic. The original has some of the most hilarious voice acting I've ever heard in a video game.

Play it the way they released them, then replay them anyway you chose but It may be hard to recreate that feeling of back then when RE pushed survival horror through the roof!

The game was mind blowing then. :D

Hi guys,
I haven't picked up any resident evil's yet on the ps1 but I did get my friend from work sell me his resident evil archives (I think its part 1) for the will for a med cup of coffee at dunkin dounuts. I think its worth it. Well right now I have to wait till my kids get done with lego batman 2 before i can get a crack at the game.
I do want to pick up the resident evil series on the ps1 but im willing to wait till i find a deal at the flea markets.

Older RE's maybe hard to find at flea markets, try our marketplace here!
You could cheat and grab the Gamecube ones theres a nice solid series available there.(1,2,3,4 Zero & Code V)

Definitely start with the original on the Playstation. It still holds up really well and its a great game. Best way to start the series.

If you play any of the newer ones first it might be harder to go back to the first one. Even though they all have tank controls, capcom did make enough changes to them that can make the first one a little frustrating if you've played the other ones.
