Sonic Jam Spindash

Post by Godot102 »

I recently got Sonic Jam for the Saturn and I was playing Sonic 1 with the spin dash. To be honest, using the Spindash in sonic 1 really isn't as useful as I thought it would be...Maybe I just suck at the game, but I feel that I've lost more lives because of me using the Spindash than if I was to play sonic 1 without it. This game feels like it was not designed for it. Anyone else feel this way?

Well, technically the game WASN'T designed for the spindash. It was just a fun inclusion in Sonic Jam for people who wanted to try it out. They didn't redesign any of the levels or anything.

Another agreeing post here. I didn't find the spin dash useful at all in Sonic the Hedgehog. At most, I used it to get a hard to reach 1up. I also ended getting killed because I used the spin dash where I shouldn't have. I found myself using the old tuck-n-roll technique on enemies in lieu of the spin dash.

Guess I'm the only one who disagrees. I'm so used to the spin attack in the later Sonic games, that I find it weird and annoying without it. So I always play the Sonic Jame version whenever I want to play the original, even though the game wasn't designed with the move in mind.

I pretty much played the Genesis Sonic games on Sonic Jam exclusively after getting it as a kid, to the point that to this day if I pop in the genesis cart, or play any of the other ports of Sonic the Hedgehog, I forget that I can't spin dash....

I only used it once. In the respawn point before the 5th boss fight (Starlight Zone), I found that I could get more than 0 rings by spin dashing past one of those fans. It was basically a glitch, since you would not be able to that without spin dash. There may have been a few times where I killed an enemy or two with spin dash.

Aside from that, nope. Great game by the way. Still wish they used that 3D engine in "Sonic World" to make a complete Sonic game on the Saturn.

A real 3D sonic game would have been nice especially since I love the model they used for Sonic. Unfortunately Xtreme was cancelled so sonic world and his appearance in Christmas Nights is probably the closest thing to a 3D sonic game on the saturn(Sonic R doesn't count).

Didn't Sonic Xtreme have this really bizarre fish eye perspective? Or am I thinking of something else?

Nope, you're remembering right. The three most memorable things about it were the camera, the Genesisey level design, and Space Queens.
