If they are TG16 cards I would be very interested in acquiring some. Could you check sometime soon?Curlypaul wrote:Interesting, lets hope they have some left when I get paid.
Shame they don't play JPN cards as I know a shop that has a stack of them. (They might be TG16 cards though I can't remember)

The place is RetroStation, run by a guy named Craig in Sutton Coldfield. He operates most of his online business thru this facebook page:

Its only a little market stall, but my god he has got a lot of games packed in there, and not just the usual crap either, he's got a good selection of games that you don't normally see in the wild.
I normally go over, but last time I just got him to send it me. It was there the next day and he never charged me a penny for postage. Can't recommend this guy enough.

Unfortunately no list, but if you message him with what kind of things you are after he'll let you know what he's got. That is my one real complaint about him, would be nice to browse a list sometimes.
He's well worth doing business with. The rare and desirable things move pretty quick, but he does get them in, you know its not like he a thousand copies of Sonic 2 like the normal places you find here. I find the prices are fair as well, and by that I mean they are normally below the normal ebay asking prices.

Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
US TG games do check the region of the console. J games do not check the console. So you can use a convertor (which flips some of the connection lines) to play J games on a US console, but you can't do the opposite and play US games on a J system without further modding. I think I read that the Euro TGs are factory modded US consoles, so that's why US games work.

Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
These new gray PAL Turbografx units have been available for years now on evilbay. A friend of mine bought one about a year ago. It's a legit system. No clone or anything like that.
Haven't recently checked if they're still available but as I recall they used to go for around $60 or so.
Almost took the plunge myself on a few occasions but the fact that my games played at 50hz on it, put me off.
Edit:

I thought it was the Japanese consoles that checked the games. Either way you are correct the PC Engines require further modding, however; its easy to get some bus switches that will automatically switch everything around so you don't even need a card converter.

Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
I had read somewhere it was the J games themselves looking for something in the console. I know the convertors that let you use J cards on a US system simply rearrange a few lines. Considering that the Famicom had no protection and rampant piracy, leading to the NES having an authentication system, it seems odd that the PC Engine would have a chip in the console checking, but the US one would ignore that function on the same chip and just use flipped lines. Of course a few lines of code in the US cards to check this same thing in the TG wouldn't have been a big deal either so who knows. *shrug*Jamisonia wrote:I thought it was the Japanese consoles that checked the games.

Re: New PAL Turbografx consoles
mmm, my understanding the reason NEC made it harder to play American games on Japanese systems was because they were afraid of inferior American versions of games finding their way back to Japan and diluting the brand.Hobie-wan wrote:I had read somewhere it was the J games themselves looking for something in the console.
