Watchmen at one point was claimed to be one of the hardest graphic novels to represent on the screen.
Personally I'm looking forward to it, even if Alan Moore didn't have anything to do with it. Moore has never wanted or enjoyed movies based on his properties, so the director and screen writer's willingness to stay true to the subject material isn't exactly high. From what they showed, and judging from Snyder's work on 300, I'd say he's going to try to stick as close as he can to the original work.
Unfortunately, at this point I really only see fans of Watchmen going to see the film. I don't think it will be successful. Sitting in the theater, only a few people seemed to even recognize the work, and most of them are folks I know. And paying attention to the blogs I read, only the gamers and the comic fans really seemed to show any interest. Most of the laymen don't really care, and in some cases, I could tell that many folks were confused by the work. It made me feel pretty bad seeing that, especially since I really like Watchmen.
Oh well, can't win them all.

Trailer looked awesome. I read Watchmen once, but don't remember too much about it. And for some reason, I seem to have lost it so I can't pick it up and read it again.
I agree about V for Vendetta. From what I've heard, it doesn't seem to be faithful to the book. It's still a damn fine movie on its own merits, but more enjoyable for people who HAVEN'T read the book. Kind of like Lord of the Rings I guess.
300 was good, but you're talking about a story that had little depth beyond it's visuals. I don't know if that qualifies Zach Snyder to do a movie about the Watchmen. I'd have preferred a different director, like Bryan Singer or Christopher Nolan who can do comic book stories with depth. Rodriguez is another choice as he could definitely get the look down(see his Sin City movie), but like Snyder I don't know if he could handle the depth of the story. His movies are all style.

I just picked up the graphic novel. Its about $20 at Borders if you have one near you. I haven't got to read much of it but the drawings are so beautiful. I loved the trailer, I must have seen it at least 20 times. But it will be amazing to see how Zack Snyder turns this 400 page masterpiece into a 2 1/2 hour film.

Seen the Dark Knight yesterday, it was possibly the best "comic" movie I have ever seen. Heath Ledger nailed the Joker to the point that I feel it is an even better version of the source material. Christian Bale is the best Bruce Wayne (Keaton being the #2)
The Watchmen Tailer looked superb, but it will do decent at the box office as only comic fans really know about it. Unless it gets some sort of ultra promotion or media exposure, to get Joe Schmoe who never heard of The Watchmen to want to go see it. I actually think a movie version of The Boys would do better with the same promotion and release time, just because the R rating would draw in the teen crowd that gets a kick out of over the top Sex & Violence.
That said, I'll be seeing Watchmen on day 1.

I read some more about this one in Entertainment Weekly and I am pretty excited now. I will also be checking the graphic novel first... sounds like a real cool style. The creator is quoted saying things like "our superheroes dont care about world peace". When he was shopping around the script to producers, he had a real hard time selling it, getting reactions like "this makes Superman look stupid".
I love art against the odds, so this sounds pretty exciting.

When they showed the trailer at TDK, I heard a guy say "I like that guy when he was called BATMAN", referring to Nite Owl II in the trailer. Unfortunately, that sums up how probably about 90% of the public views Watchmen. I am so-so on the comic, I didn't hate it, but I didn't spoodge over it, but I would love to see a movie based on it and the trailer makes it look superb.
I just hope it doesn't get too much bad publicity by people that claim it's a "wanna be batman" or "just another superhero movie" when they don't understand just what Watchmen is all about.
