Even though I did play Mortal Kombat in the arcades, I wish I was around for the glory days of arcade gaming back in the early 80s. I would have had it as rough as my siblings then, though...xan_racketBOY_fan wrote:Sad they'll never be able to experience the glorious days of the arcade like we have.AppleQueso wrote:

Gratz, dude! Saturn is easily one of my favorite systems ever.

Oh really? Because...RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Sega Saturn and cheap don't belong in the same sentence.Reprise wrote:Congrats on your Saturn! Now it's time to buy those cheap gems (check Racketboy's site), and pick up an Action Replay 4 in 1 and discover all those amazing, and often cheap, imports!
Cheap enough... Plus, if you're a patient guy and know where to look, I can guarantee more bargains can be had. Look around pawn shops, look at car boot sales, charity shops, local sales listings, decent retro stores, stalk ebay listings.RyaNtheSlayA wrote: Sega Rally - $5 or so
Nights into Dreams - $15-20 depending on condition/longbox/included 3DCP. Be sure to get a 3D pad to go with it though!
Galactic Attack - $15-20 Much better than Darius Gaiden in my opinion. In my top 5 shmups for sure
Street Fighter Alpha 2 - $10-15 Well, it's SF, so if you like it you do and if you don't you don't. A great version though and it's nice and cheap.
Panzer Dragoon $15-25 - Not nearly as good as the second one. The framerate is a bit low and it's a bit harder to actually aim at things as a result, but it's still a good game. It's also much cheaper than Zwei.
For example, the following cost me:
Panzer Dragoon - £9
Virtua Fighter 2 - £3
Sega Rally - £3
Virtua Cop 2 - £3
NiGHTS into Dreams, with the 3D controller - £15
Dark Savior - £10
Grandia (JPN) - £9
Burning Rangers - £20 (quite expensive, but not compared to how much some people pay...)
Dragon Force - £32 (see Burning Rangers...)
X-men Children of Atom - £3
Street Fighter Alpha 2 - £3
Assualt Suit Leynos 2 (JPN) - £6
Metal Slug (JPN) - £10
Virtua On - £5
Fighters Megamix - £5
Shining Wisdom - £10
etc... Seriously, I could go on...

The the OP is in the US. You can't just go mixing up regions to compare prices.Reprise wrote: Cheap enough... Anyway, congrats on the Saturn.

Generally true, but considering the conversion between Pound and dollars normally leaves US people better off, and the fact Saturn games don't usually differ greatly in price between NTSC-U and PAL, I don't think it's too unfair a comparison. I was manly making the point that games can often be found a lot cheaper than expected if you're lucky, look in the right places or are patient. And was just showing off how cheap I had managed to get most of my gamesHobie-wan wrote:The the OP is in the US. You can't just go mixing up regions to compare prices.Reprise wrote: Cheap enough... Patience is definitely key to cheaply acquiring any collection. That said, I can get lots of awesome games for say, the PS1, and Genesis for about $5 each compared to at least $15-20 each for only a very small portion of the great games on the Saturn.Reprise wrote: Generally true, but considering the conversion between Pound and dollars normally leaves US people better off, and the fact Saturn games don't usually differ greatly in price between NTSC-U and PAL, I don't think it's too unfair a comparison. I'll be 14 in August. Mortal Kombat's never interested me. The first 3 seemed to be going for style over substance, most of the others apparently weren't very good, and I won't even be allowed to play MK9 for about 4 years.KDub wrote:Well of course not, he is only what...15?xan_racketBOY_fan wrote:Never played MK in the arcade, I take.3DSStrider wrote: mom got me a Mortal Kombat PS3 arcade stick. And in 4 years you'll look back at MK9 and think "Gee, I didn't miss much, did I..."3DSStrider wrote: I'll be 14 in August. Mortal Kombat's never interested me. I was decapitating my friends at the age of 6 or so, at least.
damn kids
There's a lot more substance to the games than it looks (well maybe not so much MK1), I can tell you that for sure. Mortal Kombat II is still one of my favorite fighting games ever.
