Yay, I just got a Sega Saturn! :)

Post by 3DSStrider »

So, a few days ago I graduated from 8th grade. My grandpa got me some Gundam model kits from a hobby shop and my mom got me a Mortal Kombat PS3 arcade stick. Were going to return it tommorow, since that thing has the worst button layout I've ever seen on a stick. She drove me to dotgames and I sold some stuff and got a Saturn, Darius Gaiden, and Enemy Zero. Darius Gaiden has been hard to get into, probably because it's my first hori-shmup. Another thing is the music. It sounds like it's coming from somewhere other than the game's sound. It's hard to describe. I've also experienced it in Sonic CD. I've been wanting D since it seems like the best possible single-player game to play once my birthday rolls around and my friends can come over. After being unable to find a PS1 copy, I saw Enemy Zero and decided to get it since I've seen the HVGN review, and if he convinced me to get Gargoyle's Quest, I figured since that worked out beautifully, this should be the same right? No. My god no. It's not that it's bad, it's that I don't think I even want to play anymore after Marcus' room. I really need to find out who exactly gave the OK for this to be rated T? Keep in mind, I've been beaten Resident Evil 4 without a single moment kept awake at night. And now I'm posting at 4:24 because of the first 20 minutes if a T-rated game. Also, it came with a Model 2 controller, which is now one of my favorite controllers of all time.

Congrats on your Saturn! Now it's time to buy those cheap gems (check Racketboy's site), and pick up an Action Replay 4 in 1 and discover all those amazing, and often cheap, imports! :D

Never played MK in the arcade, I take.

Darius Gaiden has one of the most mind-blowing soundtracks I've ever heard, but I don't like the actual game that much.

Obviously not, otherwise he wouldn't be so shocked at a Mortal Kombat stick having the Mortal Kombat button layout

Also, the first Fatal Frame was rated T, and it was pretty damn scary.

Sega Saturn and cheap don't belong in the same sentence.

Still, grats to the OP. You now own what may be the best console for arcade style games in history, and quite possible the best Sega console as well.

Titles on it can be a bit pricey, but you can still find a few of it's best games for pretty cheap. My initial picks and their average auction price on eBay

Sega Rally - $5 or so

Nights into Dreams - $15-20 depending on condition/longbox/included 3DCP. Be sure to get a 3D pad to go with it though!

Galactic Attack - $15-20 Much better than Darius Gaiden in my opinion. In my top 5 shmups for sure

Street Fighter Alpha 2 - $10-15 Well, it's SF, so if you like it you do and if you don't you don't. A great version though and it's nice and cheap.

Panzer Dragoon $15-25 - Not nearly as good as the second one. The framerate is a bit low and it's a bit harder to actually aim at things as a result, but it's still a good game. It's also much cheaper than Zwei.
Older. Not wiser.

Sad they'll never be able to experience the glorious days of the arcade like we have.
