I know that the Wii U being flooded with shooters would boost sales, especially if they advertised the fact that the Wii U has better specs well enough, but it's this sort of thing that's ruining gaming. I guess it won't be the last straw until Nintendo makes a semi-realistic Metroid Prime reboot a la Halo, but still, this certainly isn't a step in the right direction.
So you're concerned with Nintendo actually getting 3rd party support? What a travesty it would be for them to actually have games people want that aren't first party.
I'm fine with them getting 3rd party support; the fact that they're getting Assassin's Creed is great, and if they get more multiplatforms like Sonic Generations, I'd be very happy. Shooters? They flood and corrupt the modern gaming market, and if they never got as popular as they have, I might not be going to this forum.

:? Shall I bring up fighters and platformers in the early 90s? 3D platformers in the 32bit gen?

So the only reason you play retro games is because of shooters?

Wow dude.

Would a platformer even begin to work by using two sticks and occasionally moving down to the buttons and D-Pad? What about any non-twin stick shoot-em-up? Fighters? Nope. This thing is *made* for shooters. That's just the controller; don't get me started on Mii Facebook.
The controller is fine. It's probably a better general gamepad than anything Nintendo has put out since the SNES. Analog stick placement is a bit different, but until we've actually used it it's hard to say if it's terrible or not. Regardless, the basics are there, so third party options that offer a Dual Shock or 360 controller config will likely appear if there's demand.
Beyond that, no odd pistol grip, no half-sized d-pad and non-symmetrical buttons, no still being wired to a Wiimote you aren't actually using...

I'm not keen on Miiverse either, but seeing that controller before the system even hits (considering the Wii Classic Controller Pro took how long?) makes me more optimistic for the console in general.

Not the only reason, but it's on the top 5. Nowadays they're churned out a dime a dozen and have annual installments that only add more maps and more guns. Isn't that what DLC is for? Oh wait, never mind, apparently that's only supposed to be used for accessing content that's already on your disc.

The only FPS that falls into that is Call of Duty, which has been the same basic game for the last 3 main installments. Otherwise that argument doesn't hold any water.

If you don't like FPS that's fine, but platformers were churned out just as much (probably more) than FPS games are now. Would you complain if platformers were again a dime a dozen and everywhere?

There are plenty of games in other genres, they may not be top selling, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. Of course you have other reasons to not like modern gaming, but I just don't see people liking FPS games as a very good reason.

There actually have been quite a few platformers recently. Not complaining.

As for FPS, I don't care for them either, but I have a simple solution for that. I just do not play them. Try it sometime.

...You can just simply just use the D-Pad and face buttons for platformers.

And the Wiimote is still usable with the WiiU which is one of the best classic 2D controllers out right now. Not the best D Pad ever or anything but it certainly feels nostalgic holding that remote sideways.

The Wii Remote feels TERRIBLE sideways. There are not many less comfortable controllers out there... :(
