OLD RUMORS AND NEWS:

What we know or rumored so far:

Codename: Project Café

-the new console will not use the name “Wii”
-the console will run on a custom IBM PowerPC CPU with three cores, a ATI R700 family GPU with a shader unit at version 4.1, and at least 512mb of RAM, which is “a bit more powerful” than an Xbox 360
-The controller boasts a six-inch touch-screen, a front-facing camera, d-pad, two bumpers, two triggers, and “possibly more,” according to the reports. It can also be used as a Wii sensor bar.
-The controller allows players to stream entire games to the device from the console, like a miniature television.
-backwards compatible with all Wii games
-The console will release in late 2012, and will be revealed at E3.
-Nintendo may not launch with any first party games, as it plans to really support third parties this time.
-Third party support extends to hardware, with a better storage solution being developed.
-Better download service.
-The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword may launch at the same time as Project Cafe. This could lead to another Twilight Princess situation.
-Hideo Kojima has been mentioned in conjunction with the system.
-Retro is working on a title that “everybody wants.” It’s been suggested that it could be Eternal Darkness 2.
-A Resident Evil game is in the works
-A StarFox title is being worked on.
-Grand Theft Auto V will be a Project Cafe title in addition to everything else.

I wonder if it will still play Gamecube games.
I hope the controller is actually a pleasure to use (for older games too)
The Wiimote is such a pain for most things (including for Netflix or even just the main menu)

Interesting. It would be cool if you could use the controller as a type of GameBoy like device - but that would seem weird since Nintendo just came out with the 3DS...

EDIT: On the other hand it won't be out until 2012 or later so I guess that's a fair amount of time between then.

So they are again releasing a console that is a generation behind in terms of power. AWESOME!

A controller with a 6 inch touch screen would be huge!

I wonder if the new console will integrate holographic data media?

I have never had problems navigating menus with the wiimote. I prefer it for netflix; however, if your out range it is annoying.

Wii wasn't able to out perform some ps2 games like a spiderman game did. From the ps2 version you can see the NY road bridge while the wii version was half generated bridge. I hope it will be something like powerful n64 but with dvd drive. Super Wii 2 not able to watch regular dvd movies would be sad.

I would love to see that little 6 inch controller screen to be in 3d.

Sounds good to me so far. PS3 level graphics are just fine with me. A large touchscreen on the controller could be interesting. Maybe it would also run DS and 3DS games.
