Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I've cleaned up the subject line.
We don't need that around here.

The 16B era, of course.

Good times, good times.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

I'm of the mind that it's neither. This is Good Old Days Syndrome to a tee.
No it's simple comparison. There were alot of games I never played as a kid, but went back and played in the last few years and thought, "Wow, this is really amazing." I have nothing against new games, there is some great stuff thats new, Okami is one of my favorites. But over all games have less ingenuity and the focus has been changed for online mulitplayer capabilities. It was more fun when you had to leave your house or invite friends over to have a multiplayer feature.

also....I don't think he meant it to sound as bad as it did, but the title change was definately needed.

I am not trying to sound one-sided on this issue, but I have noticed a greater interest in multi-player games over single player games in the past couple years. That is not to say there is not a shortage of stellar new single player games. Eternal Sonata is good. Bioshock is fun. Last time I talked video games to my friends they said they preferred the single player mode of GTA IV over the multi-player any day.
I don't play games, I experience them.

yeah but I still prefer a game like army men or age of empires online against 1 to 7 others including myself over a swarm of people in mmorpgs or first person shooters but thats just a question of genre, I like some online capabilities but they should be limited for certain games or like the emulation stages of challenging someone to classic games from all across the world, so in other worlds like you said LAN games and Direct Connect with local friend will most likely be always be more fun than huge groups of strangers or people of vastly superior skills winning too much.

You're right about games like Age of Empires or Civilization. Becasue every game starts with everyone having a fair shot. I can't stand MMO's where you the guy with no job who lives in grandma's basement can spend 20 hours a day leveling up his character. I used to really enjoy dial up sessions of Doom back in the day, expect when someone was using 14.4 any their character kinda just skipped around the levels like some kinda ghost.

To me, older games have a greater appeal than new ones, but I don't know if it is because of online gaming.

However I think that online gaming was the reason one of my favorite game series, Final Fantasy, was totally ruined. I have never understood why they had to make Final Fantasy Online an official entry in the series rather than some sort of spinoff. I skipped the game because I do not like MMORPGs, and I hated FF12 for being just an offline MMORPG. So for Final Fantasy I agree with the topic, but I really do not know about other games in general.

sorry about the tittle. I just really hate how games these days programmers and gamers alike are so obsessed with online play. I have never online gamed nor do i care. I rather play a great 1 player game anyday over some gay online game.
