Holy crap! MS and Square-Enix just dropped the MEGATON!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I also want to clarify that both the 360 and PS3 versions will be available in the US on the same date. The Japanese get it first of course, but there is no timed exclusivity in the US. The "starting 360 version after" is misleading...

Actually that's not misleading...Hashimoto said in the interview that "first they will finish ffxiii in japan. and then they will start localization for english. at that point, they will start the xbox 360 development. "

So basically, yes they could come out at the same time, but translating a game takes less time then translating and developing for another console. So unless they hold back the PS3 release just to have it on the same date, then yes they will be released at the same time. You have to realize that in that article, the statement about them being released alongside is what the author gathered, not a quote or anything. I really can't see them having the same release date though because they would probably just lose sales from doing that because if people knew that the release was being held-off for it to be released for another console, then I could see some anger spawning from that. At this point in time though, the whole release date thing is sorta unclear...once the Japan version is released and all this development begins, then we'll be able to tell clearly whether or not they will have the same release date.
Somebody sell me a model 1 modchip for Saturn. Please.

Good point, although I don't thinking holding back the PS3 version in the US will hurt sales. Look how long we waited for FF12, and it still sold incredibly well. Square-Enix usually takes their time with localizing, so I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 development was done by then. Also, there won't be any localization period for the 360 version because it'll only be in English. We will see though, maybe their will be window of exclusivity for the PS3. I'm sure PS3 fanboys will cling on to that with every ounce of their pride, but the fact remains that this is one game that everyone will get to enjoy eventually.

I never bought 12, but not because of how long it took. I played it's demo that came with Dragon Quest 8 or w/e....and I just didn't enjoy the combat system. Once the game costs like 10 bucks I'll prolly pick it up just to play it, but I think they need to stop screwing around with the battle system so much in their games, they seem to want to make them more action RPG nowadays then could old turn based RPG's like they use to be. I'm really not all that upset with it being released on 2 systems because each system will still have their exclusives, what I'm upset with is Rock Band 2 being released for 360 before PS3....what the frick....maybe I just won't buy that now because their gonna make me wait. If a game is gonna see a very successful multiplatform release I think development for both needs to end at the same time and they need to have the same release date. Oh and I hate used games. Actually I hate pretty much the only used game store left in the U.S. because they buy all the other ones out...and that's Gamestop. They are pure evil. I have refused to buy a game from Gamestop Since the Dreamcast came out. I buy my games at KMArt or if they don't have it Best Buy so that way the developer gets what they deserve.

Same here. I shop at a local independent game store. Also, I find crazy clearance deals all the time at my local Kmart. I went there once and got Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Gun and Just Cause all for $4 each.

Holding back release dates does not hurt sales at all. The same people who buy the game will buy it regardless of release date. If it's released on one console first then most people will buy it for that console rather than waiting. The core gamer (which this kind of game is aimed at) tend to have more than one console anyway.

I've read almost every post in this thread and was initially disappointed but surprisingly pleased with how people came to their senses. Thanks for bringing the trade in stuff to my attention too.

I am a Playstation 3 backer and while it is of course, disappointing for this game to transist over to the Xbox 360, I don't hold any grudges. It is economical and with all of these Enix based games exclusively on the 360 it was only inevitable that this would happen (don't forget Microsoft's lubrication to the situation and you have a deal). I don't think that either side needs to get to antsy about this though.

It by no means represents the death of the Playstation 3. Microsoft has weak first party support and relies on throwing money at 3rd parties for help and this is what they did. When you compare this to the number of great (1st/2nd party) exclusives for the PS3 such as Resistance, Little Big Planet, Pixel Junk Eden, Infamous, God of War 3, Socom etc coming out in the next year, layer this with almost all of the games that Microsoft promoted at their press conference (RE5, Fallout, RockBand, Guitar Hero) and even if you aren't interested in Sony's content, it's hard to deny that they are on the way out. This is the typical lunatic-esque nonsense that this industry is built on. Well done people.

On the other hand, this is big news and Sony did drop the ball early, with pain still persisting. Home is delayed, multplatform-ism, cost, online infrastructure and the fact that all major 3rd parties are getting comfortable with Microsoft are all big issues for Sony. They are the ones with something to prove.

What I don't get is how we are all excited about a game in which we still haven't seen anymore than 5 seconds of gameplay for (and for some people this was the reasoning as to why they think the PS3 is a failure?!). The fact that S-E showed nothing new (c'mon) this year is pathetic at best.

I don't think the PS3 will "die," I just think after all of Sony's problems these past few years, an exclusitivity mess would just be icing on the cake for them. I wish there wouldn't be a PS4 for various reasons, but there probably will be one. It's just that I don't think Sony will ever get the chance to beat out Nintendo and Microsoft ever again.

Bootaaay wrote:discovered that the PS3 could already connect to my PC without any tweaking or troubleshooting - from that point on i've been copying movies (MP4, DivX, Xvid) and music wirelessly to the PS3's super-large (and super-cheap) 250gb HDD, while my 360 is still unable to connect to the same Windows Media 10 media server than the PS3 has had zero trouble connecting to since day one.

My PS3's become indespensible as a media center to me - it's filled with every episode of South Park & Family Guy, full seasons of some of my favourite sitcoms like Red Dwarf & the IT Crowd, over 20 different movies and a crap load of anime. When i'm at work the PS3 is at home, running Linux and downloading film & tv shows via Torrents that i'll then be able to watch later on the main PS3 XMB, or it's streaming videos and music stored on the PS3 HDD wirelesley to my PSP when i'm on my lunch break thanks to the awesomeness that is remote-play, it's one of the best blu-ray players on the market and finally, the BBC iPlayer works like a charm through the PS3's internet browser. I really couldn't do without it, if my PS3 ever broke down i'd go back to using my old modified Original Xbox as a media-center, it's capabilities far outstretch that of the 360.
My xbox is my indespensible media center. I'm interested in reading about the video formats the ps3 supports. Llately my xbox can't cope with some high quality hd rips because of its old specs. Can it do mkv & ogm? or is it limited to specific mp4 encoding like the psp is? Really sorry to break the topic on this one.

It seems like a little bit of news was overlooked when it got announced for 360. FFXIII might be coming to PC too apparently...
