Game with two different names?!

Post by BoneSnapDeez »

I got a Sega Saturn RPG last night called Blazing Heroes. Did a little research and found out that the game is also called Mystaria: The Realms of Lore. I'm not saying that the name simply changed from the Japanese original, I'm saying that the game has two different names in North America. Here's some box shots:

Very unusual. Any story behind this? (I'm at work and can't look up the original Japanese title since most gaming sites are blocked :? )

It was called Riglord Saga in Japan.

The info I found right off the bat says it was renamed to Mystaria for the US localization (no reason why on that) and then renamed to Blazing Heroes because of copyright issues with Mystaria.

It's Riglord Saga in Japan. Very strange.

Also, the game looks interesting. I've never actually heard of it before.

My guess is that someone thought it was dangerously close to Mystara, the setting TSR made for non-Advanced D&D.

I have the Blazing Heroes version. A friend gave it to me in high school, but I never really got into it.

Another Sega Saturn multi-name game:

Rayforce (jpn arcades)
Gunlock (us arcades)
Layer Section (jpn saturn port)
Galactic Attack (us saturn port)

Happens a lot when arcade games are brought here, but its not usually THAT crazy

I'm wondering if there is a price difference myself. I have the Blazing Heroes version.

I have both games and IIRC there wasn't a big price difference between them.

I think it was a re-branding opportunity. The game wasn't selling well with Mystaria and they renamed it. I have no source on that though, so it could just be hearsay.

EDIT: Also, I should add, that as soon as I saw this thread title I knew what game you were talking about. I found it to be quite odd when I found this out myself.

Due to licensing issues the game known as ESPN Extreme Games was called 1 Xtreme upon being reissued.

Hmm not a bad idea for a thread. How many others are there?

An obvious first would be:
Stadium Events

becomes World Class Track Meet
