Whenever someone mentions Jeanne D'Arc, I'm almost certain an angel gets its wings.
I LOVED that game. Here's the awesome intro for the TC to see:

Seconded. My favorite turn-based PSP-exclusive JRPG. Absolutely loved this one, great story awesome music, very likeable cast, just a great JRPG in every sense.
Brave Story is a decent RPG with the interesting mechanic of applying the exp from defeated enemies mid-battle (so you can level up mid-battle). Breath of Fire III has a port in Europe (that you can import on your region free PSP). Class of Heroes is a Wizardry clone with some interesting ideas, though you'll probably want to hold off for the sequel that's coming out later. Half Minute Hero is all kinds of awesome. And I'm surprised no one's mentioned Tactics Ogre or Valkyria Chronicles II.

Yes. You'll get more out of it if you're really into Norse mythology, but it's great either way. Gameplay, story, characters, music, artwork, atmosphere - it's creative and mature in every category.
Is the PSP port of Valkyrie Profile noticeably better than the original?
The main difference is that it's in widescreen, which is awesome. The 3D graphics and framerate are improved by the beefier hardware. The sprites do look awesome on the PSP screen and it sounds the same as the original. Unfortunately, it replaces some important scenes with tacky CG movies. They aren't bad, but the original hand-painted stills are much better. Also, no anime intro in the beginning, but that hardly matters. And it lacks the bugfixes in the American PS1 version. So the PSP version is inferior but still awesome. And widescreen.
And, no matter which version you chose, play Hard Mode and get the A ending. Very worth it.
If you run out of PSP RPGs after all that drop me a line
I'm sorry if this sounds weird, but as a Valkyrie Profile fan, what's your opinion on the Star Ocean games? I'm just curious because I have never met a fan of one series who didn't hate the other; it's a really weird coincidence.
I mentioned earlier that I liked Star Ocean 2. The PSP version is a lot better than the original. Yeah, that was a fun game. Not quite on Valkyrie Profile's level but thoroughly enjoyable. I haven't played any other Star Ocean games - I've been looking at SO4 lately, since it's one of the prettiest JRPGs around. The new SO games are more about the dungeon crawling than the story, right? I'm definitely okay with that. A few questions, actually.
Do you recommend 3 or 4, and why? And, can you switch to Japanese or just mute that awful voice acting?

I need to do another playthrough of Star Ocean 2. I played it only once without consulting a guide or help of any kind. When I finished I realized that I had missed nearly all the good recruitable characters and missed out on learning some of the best skills. The game actually got frustratingly hard at the end because of this.
What is the order of the Legend of Heroes series when it comes to domestic releases? I've seen some on ebay labelled as II or III but not sure if that skips around or not.

Good question. This series confuses the hell out of me. I think it dates back to the TurboGrafx-16 days (maybe even earlier) and is somehow related to Falcom's Dragon Slayer games.
