Cabin in the Woods

I promised Luke a full review when I got home. But I can't do that guys. Saying anything about this movie would be a spoiler. So let me just say this. It is mind-blowingly brilliant. Anyone who considers themselves to be horror movie fans needs to see this post-haste. Wow.
I like horror, but more than anything I want to see it just because I'm a Joss Whedon fan. Between this and The Avengers, this is a critical year in his career. His last movie (Serenity) was a financial failure, but I hope these two will make Hollywood give him more opportunities, especially given how TV land keeps giving him the shaft.

So between his successful comics (X-Men, Fray, Buffy, and others), a successful web series (Dr. Horrible), great TV (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse) and good movies (Serenity, Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers), an awesome musical (Once More with Feeling AND Dr. Horrible) is anyone else truly amazed by how multi-talented this man is?

He's something of a role model in my eyes, but I'm also insanely jealous of all that talent that he has. I haven't even mentioned all the other things he's been involved with (the Toy Story franchise, Roseanne, etc.). He's not perfect, hell I could point out some misfires of his(the Buffy series has had its fair share of bad ideas), but he hits a whole lot more than he misses, and even his failures are at least interesting.

I watched Justice League Doom. It was awesome. It's very different from the Tower of Babel storyline, but the changes work pretty well for a movie.

For those of who familiar with JLA: Tower of Babel, I'm sad to say that Raj Alghul and Talia play no part in the movie, with Vandal Savage filling in for Raj. That's probably my biggest gripe, but it's not something that will matter to anyone who isn't familiar with the original story. Talia and Raj gave it a nice personal touch though that made it seems more like a Batman story than Justice League one though.

DC is firing on all cylinders right now. I'm loving some of the New 52 comics they are putting out. They are still putting out great movies. They are making great cartoons with Green Lantern and Young Justice, and wait until the third Batman movie hits. Speaking of which, I don't know that there has ever been a better time for Batman fans. He's being successfully handled in all entertainment mediums right now, movies, cartoons, video games, and of course comic books.

This should be a good year for Marvel though, with Avengers vs X-Men and The Avengers movie, I'm still a DC guy though

I've been doing a lot of redecorating, and recently tackled the theater. I moved the projector to where I can get great quality on a 7'x11' screen.

So after all this work the question was "what to watch?".

Gut immediately said STAR WARS. So I got everything ready. Star Wars pillows for our backs (if needed), popcorn (in an R2-D2 bowl at that), and some cold blue milk (I'm lying, we had beer).

All this prep, and I was asleep before SeeThreepio and R2-D2 ejected in the escape pod. I was out as soon as I dimmed the lights.

Oh well.

@Noise - Cabin in the woods...in the theatres presently?

@Nintendork - Quick Change, I recall the first 30 minutes of that being very very good, funny, interesting "escape" and just fun...then I recall being bored that last 45 minutes? Sound about right?

I watched "Buried" 2 weeks ago, a one-man film w/Ryan Reynolds (A contractor in Iraq is kidnapped, buried alive, given a cell phone, pencil and lighter) and there literally are no other people in the film (there are voices on the phone though). Surprisingly - this held my interest for the full 90+ minutes - quite good.

Thus, netflix told me i'd like "Wrecked" with Adrien Brody. Very similar setup - except he's trapped in a car that has fallen down a ravine. This was utter trash - despite the brilliant Brody.

Of the two, a "Buried" is a solid watch and will torment you if yr claustrophobic.

yup. We go to the theater once, maybe twice a year tops. Has to be something special. This is it.

I've got both of my 2012 theater trips planned already: Batman 3 and The Hobbit. If Prometheus is great, I'll try to see that one too.

I plan on seeing Looper, maybe Seven Psychopaths if the release date doesn't slip.

I never really cared about the theater experience. The only times in my life I've ever been to theaters is when I'm taken to one by friends or a date. Otherwise, I'm quite happy to watch movies at home with my large flatscreen and blueray player. I don't find personally that there's any real difference between seeing a movie in a theater or at home on a TV.

If there were two movies I could be dragged out to see in theaters this year though, it'd be Batman 3 and The Avengers. Hopefully, a lot of people have gone out to see Cabin in the Woods though. I'd like that movie to be successful.

Heck, maybe I will go out and make a rare trip to the theaters for Cabin, just to support Joss. A friend and I saw Serenity in theaters, so that makes us part of the small handful of people that actually went out and saw that.

Any news on the box office results for Cabin so far?
