Haha totally.

As you probably saw, I posted the TCD version of that scene earlier in the thread:

You can't tell from the the pic, but Feena (I think it's Feena?) moves her mouth when she speaks in the TCD game. It's... odd.

It seems I can rarely play games in time with TG, I'm either to late to the party (played the first Phantasy Star a whole year later than the rest of you guys  ) or too soon. Motivated by the really positive review by Happy Console Gamer (which I recommend), I couldn't resist and played the TG16 versions on the Virtual Console a couple of months ago.

At first I was just going to play the first part, but I liked it so much I immediately jumped to part 2. Unfortunately I didn't like it as much, it's a bigger and better game but the amount of maze-like areas really hurt my experience. Still, don't regret playing it one bit.

Also, I like these games so much I kinda got hooked on the series. I don't have a PSP and didn't feel like playing the PC version (don't ask, some games just feel right/wrong on a particular system for me), but I gave the Saturn remake a bit. Didn't play for too long, but it was nice seeing the redone graphics and the slight changes to the gameplay.

Then I tried Ys 3, once again the TG16 version, and although it's really different from the rest of the series I enjoyed it the same. In fact this time I also tried the PS2 remake, with gorgeous hand-drawn art, and I even beat it. Everything was in Japanese, but the TG16 version was still fresh enough on my mind that I managed to play it to the end.

I'm taking a break for now, don't want to get tired of the series for playing too much, too soon, but I'll definitely give Ys 4 a try someday, and I hope to eventually play all the games.

I'm really enjoying the 1st Y's on the PSP. Last night I made it to the big nasty final dungeon, and parked my save game at the first floor.

One thing I really appreciate about the game is the flow. It doesn't feel like there is any artificial padding, backtracking, etc. I intend to finish the game within the week, and i'm excited for the next Retro Togethers as well. Guardian Heroes in July is going to be a nice use of the Saturn, and i've never actually played the game yet.

I'm on an Ys kick myself right now. I played III immediately after Book I & II. Now I'm playing VI. I'll get to IV and V later this year, those are harder to track down as they're Japan only.

You are aware that there's two completely different games called Ys IV, right? Can't have a JRPG series without some kind of chronological confusion!

I'm really curious as to what version makes it to the PS Vita. Probably Mask of the Sun, but I'm curious.

Made some good progress tonight in the tower. I believe I am very close to finishing this one off. Once I do, I think I will gather my thoughts on the title and write them down. Really enjoyable game! I think I will play through Y's 7 on the PSP at some point as well.

I'd like to play the sequels at some point for sure. Maybe the Saturn Falcom Classics volume 2 for Ys II and the Genesis version of Ys III.

My only other option would be the DS version of Ys I & II. Which I might try instead of the Saturn Ys II.
Either way, I'm done for now! But the first one was a lot of fun and has me wishing I owned a TurboDuo!

check this out:
XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, is proud to announce that they will be bringing Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin, both from acclaimed Japanese developer Nihon Falcom, to PC on Steam. Ys: The Oath in Felghana will launch on 3/19 at a price of $14.99. More details on the launch of Ys Origin will be provided at a later time.

That's cool. Origin and Strategy are the only two Ys games I've never played.

Still, I would rather have a physical release of Ys Origin of course. Think I'll import the Windows 7 version from Japan and then apply the English patch.

They should bring Origin to the Vita.
