3 Dirty Dwarves is awesome, but I would call it a beat-em up. My all time favorite one, which ironically might not even be a platformer is Elevator Action 2. It's all platforms, but no jumping.

I also think it takes place in New Hampshire?

Sorry if you don't get the joke. When I was there over the weekend my friends and I had a running joke, "LIVE FREE OR DIE!!!"

PS. Those are good pro-tips.

Goddamn did Sega UK deliberately not release any decent games for the system. Yet another to add to my list of import wants. I normally prefer to collect the PAL games for a system, but there are too many Saturn imports to pass on

I expect better from people on this sight in a Saturn forum and astal not a platformer? It's exactly a platformer and perfect. Saturn had a bunch of fantastic platformers.

U sound kinda like a non Saturn taker that or ur bias towards one thing.Anyways id hope we could keep it positive here of all places. I don't care so much if its not ur bag but comeing here just to say bad things ugh.
Yes, I did play it, and I admitted the style and presentation are cool. I just don't find the game playable or fun. I sure enjoyed watching gameplay videos of it though.

For the record, I'm one of the biggest Saturn fans here, and have been up until very recently. It doesn't change the fact that it's a terrible system for platformers. Shooters and fighters on the other hand are available by the truck load and most of them just plain awesome.

Wow, this thread is AWESOME! More for the comic value, but still awesome.

dreamcast4ever83, where are you from, what is your first language and how old are you? I just can't help asking.

When you add a suffix starting with a vowel to a work ending in -e, you need to drop the -e.

But you guys got Keio Flying Squadron 2, Deep Fear, Discworld 2: Missing Missing presumed, Dragonball Z, Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster, Hebereke Popoitto, Jonah Lomu Rugby, Jewels of the Oracle, Parodius Da, Riven: The Sequel to Myst, Street Racer, Swagman, The King of Fighters '95, Trash It, and Whizz.

Several of those I would love to have in the US, but you guys got none of the Working Designs games. So its not just Saturn UK, but "saturn anyting else but Japan" that got screwed.

I'm totally against platformers on the Saturn. I find them all to be very generic and just average. I'm not saying they are bad, but definitely nothing worth going out of your way to play. I'll just stick with my 16 bit consoles for my platformer fix.

And I'm just talking about US releases. I'm not sure about imports.
if you took a shit, please put it back

I think the Saturn's Symphony of the Night is the superior port. More castle areas, and a character selection. Some complained about the graphics, but to me, they looked more fresh and rugged than the PS1 version, more like a Castlevania gane. Many folks will disagree, but again, personal opinion.

The only real issue is the loading times, but that can be dealt with easily. Totally not game breaking.

By fresh and rugged you mean poorly scaled. :P

Seriously though, the running shoes may be worth playing the Saturn version for. Even with the graphical issues. I don't really consider the extra character worth it, not over having the game in English. That's just me though.

Here's a good readup:

Even Astal? Personally, yeah, it might feel a bit generic, but it is pure art in motion. I simply adore the look of it!

Symphony if the Night is good for the extra areas, items and a playable Maria. It might not be quite as good at the PS1 version in some ways, but, in all honest, it's really just about the same overall.

Shinobi is pretty good on it. Taromaru is sweet (JP). Super Tempo is unforgettable (JP). :) It also does have the Genesis Sonic games with the spindash added to Sonic 1, so that's something! Yeah, not the best platformer console, but there is certainly enough on it to enjoy.
