Finally! A couple real reasons to go current generation

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Personally I think LBP is a throwaway title. You'll make a few levels, play them and then get bored. It's like a glorified tech demo that's been in development way too long. I'm not sure why everyone is hyped about Killzone 2. The way PS3 owners are talking about it, you would think the first game was actually good or something. Echochrome is sweet, I bought it in Japan for my PSP. I really wouldn't consider the PSN version a reason to get a PS3. It's only got half the levels as well. People would be better off importing the UMD version. I do think Heavenly Sword and Resistance look cool though. I'll probably get those when I pick up a PS3 eventually.

Sorry Ryan, had rain a little bit on your parade.

Well, I still wait for good reasons for next gen to come. Reasons in the past were always sequels to game (series) I liked. For example, as a fan of Landstalker and Breath of Fire 2, I did not want to miss out on Alundra and BoF3, nor did I want to miss out on MGS 2, Silent Hill 2 oder Final Fantasy X after I became a fan of their prequels.

But as for now, I still wait for something like this. Nothing like Silent Hill 5 or BoF6 really announced. I dislike the Final Fantasy series since X-2, so the only reason would be MGS4, but that still would be just one game (and one which two prequels I did not finish yet). I also know of no other interesting title yet. But on the other hand, I do not inform myself much about nextGen, since I am really busy catching up with all the retro stuff.

So unless TEH game would be announced, still no reason for nextGen over here.

Wasn't that the argument you originally tried to refute? That mgs4 could be played on its own? Even still, for most people to make any damn sense of the plot they will have to read that database despite beating every last one of them.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

Well, I posted a few games earlier that I got my console for, but I've got a small list of titles for the 360 that at least interest me. I've already got a 360(that's busted, as I said earlier), but here's some stuff that's already out, or that I'm interested in getting if and when it comes out.

Dead Rising
Condemned
Virtua Fighter 5
Dead Space
Silent Hill 5
Resident Evil 5
Alone in the Dark 5
Alan Wake(if it's EVER finished)
Darksiders: Wrath of War(I actually enjoy mindless hack-n-slash)
Prototype
Star Ocean 4(if it doesn't suck like 3 did)
Soul Calibur 4

There are some other titles that are coming to the 360, but I'm more interested in their PC counterparts, like Left 4 Dead. As a fan of horror games and horror themes, the 360 hasn't disappointed me. PS3 hasn't really impressed me yet, though. Most of the guys here have given good reasons why, and Resistance...well, I thought it was garbage. PS3 really hasn't interested me.

I didnt, this was the first Metal Gear game I had played and I beat it before the database came out, they do a good job of pulling you into the story while giving you background history, it even lets you play the original Metal Gear Solid towards the end.

Yep. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an eventual PS3 release, but as of now it's only on 360.

Look at this from my point of view for a second, ignore your rabid Sony fanboyism.
Would you buy a $400+ (might be off on the price there, but whatever) console because you're a bit curious about 3 or 4 games?
No duh, why else would you buy a new console otherwise?
Um... I've never heard of a game... or for that matter movie whose plot required you to read something else made by the company to understand the context of the plot(except Donnie Darko... if you can call crap film a movie). That's just garbage screenwriting.
Uh you could just play the other Metal Gears, shouldnt that be obvious!
I guess I think different than you. I buy a console if the price is low, or if there's something for it I just have to play. I don't buy a console if there's like 3 games I have a casual interest in.
As for MGS4...
Zer wrote:The most interesting current-gen game to me is MGS4
As has been said before, I want to play the other MGS games first. So, what's the point of buying a PS3 for MGS4 when I won't even be playing it for a while? Not to mention, I might end up hating the games. Then I'd be stuck with a big black Blu-Ray player (and again, that's useless to me).

And, the 360 has more exclusives that I actually want to play. Crackdown, Dead Rising, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden, and quite a few XBLA games.
this space intentionally left blank.

First of all, if what you said was true and you completely understood the game without any outside help... congrats but you are in the vast VAST minority. Secondly, one area of mgs1 hardly equates to playing the game or insight into the convoluted mess that is the mgs plot.
