Finally! A couple real reasons to go current generation

I had a few experiences recently and read a few things today that finally convinced me it might be time to move to the current generation of machines. I can't justify both, it would be hard to decide if a 360 or PS3 would be best. Anyway, here are my recent impressions:

-Gran Turismo 5 Prolouge: Any even casual fan of the series would appreciate this game. The disappointmet is that it is a limited and incomplete game which seems inexcuseable given how long PS3 has been out. Are they charging full price ($60) for this game? That wouldn't seem fair given that they will eventually issue a more complete game at some future point. Aside from those things, the in-game graphics are nothing but stunning and the controls are as good as ever. I had some serious hands-on with a friend's copy and we raced for hours. I think I'd rather wait for the full-blown version of GT5 but that could be a year or more away.

-Grid: I've never had a compelling reason to want a 360, but this game finally gave me one. A friend and I played a demo of the game which he downloaded recently and it simply ROCKS. If you like Gran Turismo, Grid will offer everything you love from the GT series and more. The cars shudder and shake, they take damage and the AI is very aggressive and can't just be bounced out of the way. We drove the ProMod section almost exclusively since the drifting section was serious gayosity but then that reflects my opinion of drifting more than a criticizm of the game itself. I hope the full blown version allows the player to entirely skip the drifting portion and still progress in the game. The demo didn't provide direct evidence, but I suspect that race winnings are required not only to improve your car or buy better cars, but to also repair your car so that there is some meaningful incentive to drive well enough not to beat the hell out of your car, not to mention that too much damage makes the car work poorly and eventually to fail altogether. These aspects have been severely lacking in the GT series since the beginning. The "flashback" feature is an inspired addition which allows you to correct a stupid mistake in an otherwise good race performance. This game has an inspired blend of simulation and arcade that no other racer I've played can equal. It is immersive, looks and feels outstanding and yet is still a pick-up-and-play game.

Beyond Good & Evil 2: I read just today that this sequel is seriously under consideration at UbiSoft and would logically be aimed at the 360 and PS3. If there is any justice in the world this game will see the light of day and it would be a good enough excuse for me to buy a new machine.

Metal Gear Solid 4: I love the entire series and this one looks to be the best of the bunch. If I ever get around to finishing the previous two games (hey, I've been busy) a desire to play this one would be sufficient to make me buy some new hardware.

Not to mention that I'm sure the next Tomb Raider will likely not be available on any platform I currently own and I will follow this series as long as it remains good. The biggest hurdle at the moment is that when the day comes to move to a modern console, I will also need to upgrade to an HDTV since I as yet do not have one which will make that all a large purchase indeed.

GT5Prolouge is at a discount price of 40 dollars, Grid is available on the PS3 as well then of course MGS4 is only available on PS3. Not to mention the eventual release of FF13, LBP, K2 and R2. As well as already released games like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, and Haze.

I was in the understanding that Grid was only on the 360. If it too is available with PS3, that would make my choice a whole lot easier.

It seems at the moment that every topic I read has Ryan telling me that Playstation is the best, and I mean every topic. Hmmmm... I don't remember that before, why the sudden change Ryan?

In reference to the original post I agree with you for GT5, GT4 is the one game I have for PS2 and was the reason I bought it. My current trend is to buy Nintendo first, then Playstation at the very end of it's life. I got an N64 when it came out, then a PSOne when the PS2 came out. A Gamecube at launch then a PS2 Slim when the PS3 came out. Don't have a Wii, not enough cash, so I can't see me getting into next generation quite yet. Maybe when they are considered retro and we all plug into the Playstation 6 AKA The Matrix.

Dead Rising and Condemned were the reasons I grabbed my 360...then Virtua Fighter 5 came out. Yeah, I love it. It's too bad it's busted. In fact, I own two, and both are busted.

Im very compulsive plus I grew up w/ Playstation and am having a huge amount of nostalgia. But in all seriousness I had a Wii and 360 before I even looked at the PS3, ended up getting one due to Blu-Ray and have loved it since.

i will buy a ps3 the day that FF13 comes out, or maybe last remnant or star ocean 4. never the less, its going to be a ps3, and its just a matter of when.

woops Grid is an exclusive

Well if you like racing games take a look at Motorstorm and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, im a big racing fan myself.

Don't forget that Grid is also on PC. So if you have a system that can handle it then by all means go for that version.
