So how many hours did it take you to finish the first game?
I have the collection for the PSP. Just need to start playing it.

After I finish FF 7 I'll get in on some Ys. Seems like most people are getting done already... and it's still the beginning of March!

Re: Together Retro: Ys I
Ys I is pretty short playa.
SPOILERS: YOU MIGHT NOT WANNA READ IF YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED THE GAME AND WANNA GO INTO IT FRESH.
To y'all who just finished it for the first time... how cryptic did you think it was? First time I played through it, I got through most of it without a walkthrough or outside help. Eventually I got stuck in Darm Tower though, I couldn't figure out how to get through that sealed door (the one you need the evil ring for). I also had a hard time finding one of the pieces of silver equipment.
A couple more thoughts about the Turbo CD version:
- The "field" area is so tiny compared to the DS and PSP version! It only spans a couple of screens, and the Roda trees are located about a 10 second walk from each other. I'm sure the same thing applies to every "old" version of the game (MSX2, PC88, DOS, Master System, Famicom, etc).
- The voice acting... wow. Not only is a bad, but it's so inconsistent. Sometimes the voices are accompanied by text, sometimes they aren't. At other times, half of a conversation will be voice and the other half will be text. Sometimes the characters' lips move, sometimes they don't. It all seems very rushed.
The best part is the Dark Fact battle at the end... You know how you need the silver equipment? Well Dark Fact basically says, "Mwahaha you cannot defeat me! You need the silver equipment to beat me! Mwahahah yes the silver equipment! Mwahahah." I'm paraphrasing here, but you get the gist. Hilarious stuff, and of course he says the same thing whether or not you have the silver equipment.

Actually, the field seems pretty big on the master system.BoneSnapDeez wrote: - The "field" area is so tiny compared to the DS and PSP version! I'm stuck on the dreaded bat. I think I just need to grind more since that seems to be a good solution for this game. I'm level 18 right now and I'm playing the Turbo graphix version.
Though I think the hardest part is that I seem to accidentally drive the bats into the bottom of the screen so when he transforms into his monster form I can't hit him.

Interesting, I haven't played that one in ages. I might have to purchase it later this year. Funny thing is, I actually owned it until a couple of days ago. Ended up exchanging it for the Turbo CD version (an Amazon seller had sent me the Master System version by mistake the first time).alienjesus wrote:Actually, the field seems pretty big on the master system.BoneSnapDeez wrote: - The "field" area is so tiny compared to the DS and PSP version! About the bat... Make sure you have all the silver equipment. That's mandatory. I can't remember what level I was at the fight, unfortunately.
I wrote about this earlier in the thread a bit... it's tempting to run away from the swarm of bats, but try to walk just in front of them so they follow you somewhat closely. When the boss reforms, he'll be right next to you or behind you, so you can strike a hit.
If all else fails, grind some more levels!
Re: Together Retro: Ys I
Ahh that has to be my problem then, I don't have all silver equipment. I'll have to go find the shield and try again. When I do, I'll make sure to follow your tip about the bats. Thanks a ton.

Re: Together Retro: Ys I
I've had the DS collection for a while now. I really should try to attempt to finish book 2 this month.
I got stuck on one of the bosses in the fire area. Some kind of skull that makes a worm come out of it's mouth. I pretty much gave up at that point.
