Oh man I just found myself in the most annoying situation.

As you've probably observed, Ys is one of those "save anywhere" game, no save points.

Well my stupid ass saves the game right on the spot where an enemy who can kill me in one hit happens to spawn. Yeah, so every time I reload the save: instant death. I went through this about about 30-40 times trying everything I could: tapping right/left/right/down as soon as the game loads, opening to menu screen real quick to try to heal or maybe equip different armor. Nope: still died immediately.

Then I bring up my password (the Turbo CD version also has that option) and go to the password screen. I try for about half an hour to figure out which part of the password contains Adol's coordinates, hoping that I can reload the game just a few pixels away and not get owned... No luck (these passwords are huge).

Finally I simply reload the game again and miraculously wiggle my way out this mess. No idea how I did it, but I just wasted about an hour of play time. Thank God I didn't have to start all over, I'd be some pissed off.

Moral of the story: save in doorways, clear hallways, etc. And save when you have plenty of health. And make multiple save files!

Anyway, back to the game....

that's hilarious, glad you made it out. I try to keep one save in town before I go dungeon crawling.

On to the Darm Tower...which sounds a lot like the Damn Tower.

welcome to most of the awesome boss fights in Ys. The final boss is almost shmup like in its glory, and one of the more memorable in this style of game that I've ever played. It was awesome, and it will rock your world.

I've found the bosses too easy so far. Patterns are simple to learn. Were they made easier since the PC88 version?

as long as you have the right gear, none of the bosses are especially hard. I found the bat boss to be the toughest prior to the final boss, but the final boss will really require you to make some twitch movements to win. otherwise you can basically overpower all the others and be aggressive.

Ys I is done!

I was gonna follow in the footsteps of dsheinem and post a photo of my ending screen... but the Turbo CD version has no ending! Not for Ys I, that is. Instead you get a cutscene that segues into Book II. Here's a couple shots of that:

Next up... Book II. I'm not crazy about this one. So many mazes. :?

made it to the 10th floor of the tower, but my battery was about to die so had to stop and charge it. :?

BTW: major achievement (or uh... trophy) for me here... this would be the first time I've ever maxed out a character in an RPG. It's weird seeing 9999 Exp.

I'm up to level 9 and have the silver armor and shield; working my way through the mines.

I hit a weird glitch earlier. In the main town, I was suddenly appeared deep in the mines. I had no idea where I was in there and ended up dying.

In the Master System version, it saves EVERYTHING. If you save with an enemy flashing and disappearing because you killed him and another right next to you with half his hp gone, when you load it up, it'll be EXACTLY like that, half health enemy and other enemy still disappearing and all. It's like a save state almost.

9999? I need a total of 51,200 exp to reach level 10 :S.
