Wasn't Hard Corps like that too?
Both games feature regular enemies too, but they both get to the boss fights quickly. I don't mind because those bosses are so awesome. It's almost like they are bragging about how well they can do boss fights in both of those games
I haven't played much of Hard Corps Uprising. It's just another game on my endless backlog, but from what I recall it wasn't as boss heavy. That might appeal more to some people I guess.

Seriously. Screw you Shao Kahn I'm gonna play Animal Crossing.
I totally LOVED Shattered Soldier. I'm not sure why it isn't more respected. It was challenging, the graphics looked good, and the music was rockin. Great game.

plus it has a 30 lives Konami code on the title screen.
I'd encouraged anyone who likes Shattered Soldier to try The Red Star too. Such an underrated game. Clearly a lot of effort when into the gameplay and design of that game and it has a great soundtrack too. I think I played both games around the same time and had a blast with both

Technology was enough for Contra long time ago, all it does today is blurry the screen with fireworks like in Contra: Rebirth (which was actually more like Metal Slug, but whatever). New hardware only harms Contra, it doesn't help it.
This. My main problem with modern day shmups and run and gun games is that there's always too much shit on the screen. Everything just looks like a haze, and tons of cheap deaths are the consequence.
I'd love to see a new Contra game on something like the Vita with classic 2D graphics.
sevin0seven wrote:Contra 4 for DS and Contra Rebirth for Wiiware were pretty good addition to the series. I also enjoyed Shattered Soldier for PS2. Hard Corp uprising I haven't tried but might give it a go in the future.
Contra seems to only be good on Nintendo systems Well...with the exception of Contra: Hard Corps. That game is badass and is one of my favorite Genesis games

You just perfectly summed up why I think Alien Hominid is one of the most overrated run and gun games ever

Alien Hominid reminds me of a poorly balanced metal slug.

That's pretty much EXACTLY what it is. I actually enjoyed some of the mini games more than the main game, because at least they were well designed. That puzzle platform game and the Russian missile game were fun and retained the humor and quirky visual style of the main game
I love Castle Crashers though, so I give AH some respect for making the existence of that game possible. That little alien is actually a decent character in CC too
