Video Game Finds

 Can this be the new Thread title? Simple and to the point.

Guilty Gear Isuka (NTSC J) - $3.00 Swap Meet
An okay 2D Street Fighter style game with different characters and weird moves. Since it was a Japanese release at only three bucks, grabbed it. Disappointed it was not one of the exclusive to Japan Guilty Gear releases but still a great price. :D

Couple key features is a four player mode and a turn function. Unlike the quick turn on the Arcade Defender, somehow this doesn't feel right for a fighting game. Ah well another button to hit on the Arcade stick.

Two new game modes have also been added, first being a side-scrolling beat ‘em up mini-game a la Streets of Rage called Boost Mode, where players take one of the games characters and pound away on hordes of mindless thugs. The second new mode is a character-building, RPG-esque mode where characters take control of a robot that can slowly learn every move in the game. The robot learns moves by going through the beat ‘em up mini-game and collecting experience points which Advertisement can be spent on learning new moves. It’s fun slowly making the robot stronger, and the way it interprets the moves in the game is good for a chuckle, but ultimately the leveling process is very slow and time consuming.

PSX SCPH-5000 (NTSC J) - $5.00 Swap Meet
Seller wanted ten, talked him down to five for a dusty console with no cords. I have a Japanese 1000 with direct SVideo, 1001, 7501, 9001 and a smaller PSOne. I didn't even know there was a 5000 with what turns out to be the last in the series of direct RCA output. The reader wouldn't even play a CD music disc until I kicked up the laser slightly. No soundscope in the 5000, but still a nice colorful CD Player built in. 8)

Weird how Japanese models do not have a polarized AC plug. Looky the 2 player link ports!

man, I'm a fan of ArcSys and Guilty Gear in general, but I could not enjoy Isuka. It was just so chaotic, but not in a fun way.

You bet.

Cassettes with the plastic case are roughly the same size as a loose Genesis cart. I have my loose Genesis games in a couple of cassette holders that have pull out trays like Michi has posted (except mine has three trays unlike his :P).

Looks like this, except mine has 2 drawers.

Dude, I see those all the time at Goodwill.

They also have various different steering wheels (for racing games, not actual steering wheels :P ) there quite often and I always wonder if it's anything good because I don't know anything about them. Someone should tell me what kind to look for, if there's ever anything good I'll have to pick it up. There were 2 there today, one which I noticed had a cord that allows it to hook up to a PS2, xbox, and something else. It was like $7. I didn't really look at the other one.

Yeah, they're really easy to find now since most people have gotten rid of all of their cassette tapes. Thrift stores around here get them in all the time. They're cheap as hell (I didn't pay more than $2/3 for each of mine) and, considering you can fit around 12 carts in each drawer, really economical. I've got mine sitting on top of my old matching VHS cabinet :D

I see steering wheels all the time too. I picked one up a while ago. It's nice, but I don't use it that often. Then again, I have a flight stick for my PS2 as well and only use it on Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron, but it's still pretty fun.

The steering wheels are a crap shoot most the time they are broken.

There are always steering wheels at the Goodwill stores I hit up, most of them are there for a reason. Either broken, incomplete, or just plain junk. I have had good luck picking up some and flipping them. Notable ones include : Logitech Wingman Formula Force Red version $12, sold for $50, Fanatec Speedster 3 $8, sold for $40. I also picked up a couple Thrustmaster wheels for the ps3 for $8 each, those have just been sitting around my house lol. I dont really need any other wheels since I have had my G25 for years, and nothing really comes close to it.

Getting back to the point, most of the wheels you see out there are not worth the space they will be taking up in your house.

I think this is the reason why there are Steering Wheels at Thrift Stores. Not that they don't work, but the amount of room taken for just a few games. Still, its nice to have one for a more realistic drive and hopefully prevents practicing Crazy Taxi techniques on a real car.
