"I also bought one of my wavebird a year or two before the other, and they are different. The older is a 1-3 model and the newer one is a 2-1. The new also says CE0125! under the channel select. Although the model numbers are the same."

Re: Bootleg Wavebird?
The only way to know for sure is to look at the PCBs. you gotta open them up.
Re: Bootleg Wavebird?
It seems likely that something with an incorrect model number is fake. Kind of like how the fake SNES controllers have SNS-005 on the back (model number of the original controller) when they are intended to be the SNS-102 model.

I agree, but was there actually a model number discrepancy here?Zing wrote:It seems likely that something with an incorrect model number is fake. captainhavoc, does your controller at the top of the picture actually read "DOL-006" or the expected "DOL-004"?
Re: Bootleg Wavebird?
I can clearly see it in the photo.
It would be a huge, and very unlikely, precedent for Nintendo to use the same part number for two different items. This one simply has to be fake.

Re: Bootleg Wavebird?
Dammit! I just went back to look at the numbers on the controllers and they're all DOL-004. It just looks like one of them is DOL-006 in one of the pictures. Sorry about all the speculating over nothing, when someone pointed out the "difference" I just looked at the weird photo instead of the actual controllers. You can blame my inattention to detail and a crappy iPhone camera for that.
At this point the different revision theory sounds the most plausible and since I don't have the screwdriver to open them up and it's not like there's anything particularly wrong with any of them, I'd say case closed. I'd just like to say that if there's anyone out there in the market for one of these, then go for the one without the CE 0125 on the bottom. The polished feel really makes it feel like a regular gamecube controller.

That's what I thought may have happened. It would have otherwise been an unbelievably high quality knockoff (shapes, color, print all match too perfectly).captainhavoc wrote:Dammit! Glad to know everything is sorted out now.
