I recently bought a platinum Wavebird at Gamestop, and then bought two more on ebay. When I was testing them all out, I noticed that the one from Gamestop (the lower one) didn't have the CE 125! below the channel switch. I also noticed that the Gamestop one felt sorta polished is the best way I can put it. The ones from ebay (top one) felt more matte finish.
All three work great and everything and are exactly the same in every other respect but I am a little curious about whether or not I've been bamboozled and which controller is legit, or are they both?

Re: Bootleg Wavebird?
There is a lot of difference between the two. They even look to be completely different models.
Can you open them up without damaging them?

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Bootleg Wavebird?
They may not be from the same batch/revision, but both look pretty kosher from what little I can see. Could the "polished" feel be due to it being more heavily used than the other?

It's not feasible for me to open them up since they use the weird Nintendo screws, but when I say they're alike, they're exactly alike. Here's another pic.

It actually might be, the polished one is definitely the most worn out of the bunch. The thing I was most curious about was the CE markings, the matte feel was just another bit of strangeness.
Re: Bootleg Wavebird?
I'm pretty sure those are both official. If you look at the information, you can see that they're different models of the Wavebird (No. 004 and No. 006).

Strange... According to this site: http://maru-chang.com/hard/dol/english.htm. The DOL stands for Dolphin, the Gamecube's codename and the 00# stands for different accessories. The Wavebird is DOL-004. The Wavebird Receiver is DOL-005. Strangely enough, DOL-006 isn't a Wavebird, but a NINTENDO GameCube Game Disc. I'm starting to think the DOL-006 Wavebirds may be fake.Dylan wrote:I'm pretty sure those are both official. Is the 006 the one without the Nintendo Gamecube font on the face of the controller?

Re: Bootleg Wavebird?
The "CE" marking means Conformité Européenne (European Conformity). It's just a special certification needed for selling electronics in the European Union. I'm guessing the controller with that marking would be the newer one, revised and certified for sale in the larger market.captainhavoc wrote:It actually might be, the polished one is definitely the most worn out of the bunch. But both of those still look legit to me.
They both have it if you look very closely.Flake wrote:Is the 006 the one without the Nintendo Gamecube font on the face of the controller?

Sorry, the angle I shot it in blended the logo into the grey of the controller. It's sounds weird, but I just pulled the other controller out and it did the same at the same angle.
