Beautiful list. I myself just backfilled some of my Genesis hockey collection with a complete Mario, Brett Hull and ESPN NHL Hockey Night.

I've got one that isn't on your list - recently picked up a complete EA Hockey for the Mega Drive. Unfortunatley the case got a little dinged on the way over and doesn't close any longer but the manual and cart are in beautiful shape.

How has no one mentioned NHL 2004 PC?

It has the best interface, and the greatest AI for any nhl game. Plus it has a very active modding community.

Looks good.

I just got NHL 2001 from a guy on gametz for $2.25 shipped. And I won NHL '97 CIB for Saturn on ebay for $3.89 shipped. I look forward to playing them. Especially 2001, it has been so long. haha

^ The first Saturn NHL Hockey game was '97 (EA also put out '98 on the Saturn) - unless you meant the Sega CD version?

NHL Championship 2000 on PS1 is also pretty good. Just played it last night as a matter of fact

Oh, and NHL Rock The Rink! That one was a blast on PS1, too :D

One game i'll be relooking at soon (and I lucked into another CIB copy at Goodwill - I have one to give away in some kind of contest) is NHL 2-on-2 Open Ice Challenge. It was Midway's mid-90s NBA Jam hockey clone (before Hitz much later). Was in arcades and only had a PC and PlayStation release with no sequels.

I like this thread.
Here's what I've got:

Image
Tele-Games Hockey-Tennis II - I've never managed to get this darn thing to work, but I love the way it looks and consider at least one pong console to be essential in anyone's retro collection.

Image
Ice Hockey (NES - complete)
Blades of Steel (NES)
Great Ice Hockey (Master System)
NHL Stanley Cup (SNES)
Street Hockey '95 (SNES)
NHL '94 (SNES - complete)
NHL 96 (SNES - complete)
NHL 97 (SNES - complete)
Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey '98 (N64)
NHL Breakaway 99 (N64)
NHL Blades of Steel '99 (N64)

Image
NHL Hockey
NHLPA Hockey '93
NHL '94
NHL 95
NHL 96
NHL 97

all complete!

Image
Brett Hull Hockey 95
Mario Lemieux Hockey
ESPN National Hockey Night
NHL All-Star Hockey 95
Wayne Gretzky and the NHLPA All-Stars

all complete! except for the Gretzky one, missing the manual.

Image
Air Hockey (PS1)
NHL 2000 (PS1)
NHL 2001 (PS1)
NHL Championship 2000 (PS1)
NHL Rock The Rink (PS1)
NHL 2K (DreamCast)

Image
NHL 97 (Saturn)
NHL All-Star Hockey (Saturn)
NHL '94 (Sega CD)
NHL 2003 (PS2)
NHL 2K3 (PS2)
NHL 2K6 (PS2)
NHL Hitz 20-02 (XBOX)
NHL 09 (PS3)

Personal favorites are Ice Hockey for the Intellivision, even though I don't own it, it's the only Inty game I remember playing as a zygote. NHL Hockey for Genesis, NHL Hitz 2002 and NHL 09 because it boasts an optional NHL '94 control scheme.

I used to have NHL 2001-2006 for PS2 but I left them with my dad and they were subsequently lost somewhere in their house. I can't really afford to keep up with the current NHL series, which causes me great physical pain because they look amazing and always get excellent reviews.

^ Well, that post is awesome. I can look at those pictures all day.

Including Street Hockey '95 (I always loved that they put a year on this, like it pertained to some certain season and would be duplicated in future games) crosses some kind of invisible retro sports gaming line though ;)

I always forget a Blades of Steel sequel hit the N64 also (more familiar with the PSX one). There are a bunch of hockey games on the N64 i'm not too familiar with. I always played my sports games on the PlayStation and then Dreamcast.

NHL 2k2 for the DC (one of the last US games released) is really good. I remember 2K was incredibly challenging to score in.
