Hockey!
Hockey!
I'm not even really into sports but lately I've been thinking about the good times I've had playing NHL 2001 on my computer back in the day. The only hockey game I own these days is Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey (N64), which is fun but not nearly as great as NHL 2001. So I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good older hockey games? I figure I can probably find them cheap enough so it won't hurt to try some out. I plan to get NHL 2001 for ps1 or ps2 some time soon, but wanted to see if anyone else has a favorite to recommend.
Re: Hockey!
Blades of Steel on NES was great, and NHL '94 on SNES was pretty good. Except for Tennis (Mario style), I pretty well dropped out when the 3D era arrived though.

I say forget NHL 2001. Get NHL 06 on the PS2.
As a nice bonus, NHL 06 also includes an emulated port of NHL 94 from the Sega Genesis
I also recommend NHL Hitz 2002 - Great arcade-style hockey! It's like Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey on steroids

I love EA's 16 bit hockey games....and I don't really even care for hockey. Those games are so damn fun! I think I have a hockey game for Dreamcast too, but haven't played it.

Wait a minute Mrs. N64, you mean to tell me you don't have Blades of Steel '99 yet?!
Re: Hockey!
NHL 2002 is arguably the best hockey game ever.
Also on my list, NHL '94 (sega CD is the best version).
Skip NHL '96, but most of the EA games are pretty solid up until 2004.

Haha yeah, pretty much. I've totally overlooked sports games for the most part. But I'm assuming that means you recommend Blades of Steel '99, so I will definitely check that on out.

I'm actually not crazy about 8 and 16 bit hockey games, maybe I just haven't tried the really good ones or something, but they haven't done much for me.
My only complaint with Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey is the hockey rink feels way too small. Other than that it plays fine in my opinion.

You must try NHL '94 at the least on the Genesis. It's awesome.

Re: Hockey!
Ice Hockey for the NES is my absolute favorite - the team customization and arcade feel make for great fun. I've always liked it more than Blades of Steel, it's really fun to make a team of all fat kids.
NHL '94 comes in a very close second. I grew up playing the SNES version, but own the Sega CD version now. It still holds up very well.
If you're looking for something a little more modern, I couldn't recommend Midway's NHL Hitz series more. Maybe not the most authentic hockey simulator, but the fights are amazing! Especially in the earlier titles ('01 - '03).

Yes, any Blades of Steel is awesome and Ice Hockey for the NES (despite its generic appearance) kicks ass.
Any of yous ever play TV Sports Hockey for TG-16? I might check that out.
