The general consensus of collectors is the screen is better. Many people even feel it to be 'brighter', which is a tricky concept considering there's no light in it. But most people who own both will tell you that the the slimline's screen is clearer.

As far as size differences, it's not a monster difference. The slimline is sleeker with more rounded edges. How much difference there is gos from person to person. The people who own both but still prefer the original feel that the little extra size makes it 'fit better' in their hands.

At the end of the day it seems like most people prefer the slim, some still like the original. So the improvement is there it just might not be mind blowing.

The collection that guy has isn't bad. I question him referring to Dynamite Slugger as 'rare', but that collection is probably worth what he's asking.

You can have a look at some rough values with this price guide. Although it's really only good as a guide. Also you might find the layout a little strange, some neo-geo fans tend to organize games by release date /catalog number. Much like a periodic table of elements, they sometimes think it can shed light on unreleased games / prototypes. So you'll find that some games (like Cotton) have two different numbers between the US and Japan, so they're two different entries.

That price guide is really cool. If nothing else it gives me an idea of what to look for from each region. I found another slim on ebay that comes with a few games and it's listed for $60. I might pick that up and try to fill in the games I need. A lot in the $300 auction I already have.

always wanted a silver one but after owning a Game Gear it isnt much of an improvement (accept for the joypad that was so f'n awesome) I bought it for sonic, also not to long ago the Discovery store rereleased it with 6 games and was for 40 bucks along with the ability to buy bundles of games but they were only blue.

anyway i might get the slim.

I have one of the Sky Blue Colored ones that came packaged with Sonic Pocket Adventure. I concur that the thumb stick on that handheld was unbelievably precise and a joy to use. I only have a handful of games for the unit, but it is one of my most prized peices in my game collection. My biggest regret is the fact that I had all of the titles for it that were system linkable with the Sega Dreamcast, as well as the Dreamcast games that they linked with, yet I was never actually able to find one of the NGPC - DC link cables to make use of the feature. Maybe someday I'll find one..

My friend and I were such huge Dreamcast supporters that we'd start debates and arguments with co-workers and friends just to point out the features that the system pioneered. Mainly though, just to get those kids worked up for our own entertainment. We never got tired of the comments those kids would make about the other three consoles, and we had a retort for most of the biggest claims of the day. I don't take any of it seriously, but for the laughs, it was worth faking the role of pseudo-fanboy!

To the early PS2 supporters, they claimed their system blew away the Dreamcast. (Mostly because they bought into the hype alone at launch). Our answer was always, "Oh yeah, with what game?" (At the launch, the PS2 had jack) They'd stand there for a moment, dumbfounded, and we'd start listing off triple A Dreamcast titles, followed by repeating the question. "With what does PS2 blow away DC with?" Most stopped there, but those who persisted, and maybe tried to pull a tech spec route instead, we'd just reply with "Dreamcast has 8MB of dedicated RAM, PS2 has 4, it fails to be able to display anywhere near as much on screen at one time."

To Xbox early adoptors who said it was the first true online console, we begged to differ, and then edged them on a bit about how the controller just ripped off ideas from the Dreamcast with Analog triggers and two memory card spots.

And finally, the Gamecube early adoptors talked about how great and innovative the GBA > Gamecube link was, a first of its kind they'd claim. We'd pop em with the Neo Geo Pocket Color > Dreamcast link feature and sink their argument too.

In the end, Sega pulled support for their system, and SNK discontinued the NGPC too early, and everyone else had the last laugh. All the other consoles went on to become awesome systems with great game selections, but playing devil's advocate for the Dreamcast sure was fun.

if some one already has the original Neo Geo Pocket color is it worth it to get the slim for the price they go for this days?

I doubt it. I have a slim one and it's gorgeous, but from what I've heard, they're near-identical.

Also, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I think the ever-so-slightly smaller case stops you from putting in a GBA SP front light. I tried and couldn't get it to fit, but then again, I didn't try very hard because I didn't want to damage anything, and I wasn't looking at the guides at the time.

But I'd say it really isn't worth buying both, unless you just HAVE to own both. I wouldn't mind having both models, but for the price, it isn't really worth it, in my opinion.

Last I checked, they were still $30, right? The huge $2,000 bundles were with stacks of CIB games...
