I couldn't possibly come up with a top 10 because of how many great games I have played but here's what's off the top o' my head.

Super Mario All Stars + World - SNES
Super Metroid - SNES
Legend of Zelda: A link to the past - SNES
Gunstar Heroes - Genesis
PilotWings64 - N64
Castlevania: SOTN - PS1 (The JP version cuz the US voices sucked)
Metal Gear Solid - PS1
Radiant Silvergun - Saturn
F-Zero GX - Gamecube
Tetris - GB original

I almost covered every genre just thinking of what I wanted to play. I don't know if they're really my favorites but I know I could probably play those games forever. :D Then again, perhaps that could be defined as my favorites then?

Can't do it. I can name my favorites in different genres, but I've played way too many games to just name ten.

Not in any kind of order here, and trying to give each genre only one entry, except when there's some seriously honorable stuff. I've also worked to kind of go outside the 'norm' for this website and represent the PC a bit more. I'm also leaving out a lot of games that it hurts to leave out.

System Shock 2 - PC

A wonderful, wonderful first-person quasi-RPG. The graphics are a bit dated nowadays (though there are patches to help with that) but the sound design alone can give you nightmares. Bioshock's daddy.

Star Control 2 - PC/3DO (Freeware now!)

A huge, huge game. Not ENTIRELY sure what genre to pigeonhole it into, either. Equal parts exploration, combat, strategy, and diplomacy (...and luck..), this is possibly my favorite game of all time. It's hilarious, it's tough as nails sometimes, and it's awe inspiring. Also, it's free now! They've taken the best parts of the 3DO port of the game and mixed them with the best parts of the PC version, and the game is much better for it. It's titled 'The Ur-Quan Masters' now--do yourself a favor and grab it.

Planescape: Torment - PC

This western-style RPG kind of an odd duck among the Infinity Engine games (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, et cetera). It (can be) very light on combat, and the game is wordy, wordy, wordy. Thankfully, those words are fantastically written--this game is like an excellent book. The story is tightly written, the characters are well-defined and interesting, and the world is beautifully weird.

Fallout 1/2 - PC

Okay, another western RPG. But bear with me here--it's got a completely different setting and a very different focus. Sure, the writing is still great (and the comedy blacker than black), but there's a bigger focus on combat here, with a tuned turn-based combat system that I'm of the mind has never been topped in an RPG to date. Rocket launcher to the groin? Yes, indeed!

Sonic 3 & Knuckles - Genny

In my mind, this is probably the perfect platformer. Huge, fast, lots of hidden stuff and lots to do. The level design is spot on (Lava Reef's my favorite, personally), the graphics are great, and there's even something of a plot, without a word of dialogue.

Freespace 2 - PC (Also freeware!)

Space flight sim. Branching missions, unbelievably huge capital ships firing huge beam weapons at eachother, and swarms of fighters in between them trying to pick eachother off. The plot's surprisingly decent as well. This game is also home to a huge amount of mods, transplanting it into many different sci-fi universes and improving the already decent graphics. Also, it's been released as freeware! Go! Go get it now!

Chrono Trigger - SNES

You all know this game, I imagine. Big, multiple endings, decent characterizations, non-whiny protagonist, tight story, excellent battle system, terrific graphics, and all in a JRPG!

I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream - PC

I had to represent the point-and-click adventure game, and didn't want to go the obvious route with games from LucasArts or Sierra (Though The Dig gets a seriously honorable mention). This game is a downer. It also almost REQUIRES a walkthrough. Based on Harlan Ellison's (downer) short story describing the plight of the last four people alive on Earth, kept alive and sane by a rogue AI that only desires to torture them, this game's pretty heavy. The graphics are decent, the puzzles are tough (though pretty much logical), and the voicework is top-notch. Ellison himself even voices AM, the AI holding our characters hostage.

Mechwarrior 2 - PC

Mech sim, obviously. This game was a big deal, and it still holds up today. The graphics are pretty dated, though I believe there's some patches to bring it more up to date. If you've got a good joystick, though, and play it in a dark room with your speakers way up, it really does feel as though you're piloting a multi-ton giant robot. It's a great game for LAN play--I'm not sure if it still works online, I'm afraid--and it'll run on basically anything you throw it at.

Medieval 2 : Total War - PC

This quasi-RTS is probably a controversial choice. We go from a turn-based, almost boardgame like main map where you manage your cities and resources, to a huge real-time map with hundreds upon thousands of 3D units individually bashing the crap out of eachother. Unit choice, formation, and experience all matter, and seige warfare is here in spades. I've spent hours bombarding a fortified city's huge stone walls with trebuchets and cannons, watching the giant bricks come down and crush my enemies, or watching the wall simply collapse beneath their archer's feet, before sending a unit of cavalry in to flank their gate defenders...yeah. It's a good game.

I know I've left off some other important games, but I'm pretty happy with this list.

I forgot about Freespace and Freespace 2...those games are amazing. I kinda forgot about the space sim as a genre, if I hadn't Tie Fighter would have been in my top ten for sure.

I've been gaming for over two decades now, so making a Top 10 is next to impossible. These games however, immediately come to mind (not necessarily in order)...

1] Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
2] Megaman 3 (NES)
3] Life Force (NES)
4] Dragon Quest VIII (PS2)
5] Sonic 2 (Genesis)
6] Morrowind (Xbox)
7] Halo (Xbox)
8] Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
9] Zelda: Twilight Princess (GCN)
10] Metroid Prime (GCN)

Whew, that was tough. Hell, making a Top 100 would be exhausting for me. :)
