I'm fine with game consoles becoming more media centric. Hell we all knew it was going to eventually happen the second the Sega CD could play music cds. It's nice to only have to use one device for say, gaming and movies.
I just hope they remember to keep gaming as the primary focus, as it's the primary draw after all.
Sony changing PSN to "Sony Entertainment Network"
Re: Sony changing PSN to "Sony Entertainment Network"
Which doesn't seem to be in MS's agenda, and then you need Gold for just about every service on it.
Re: Sony changing PSN to "Sony Entertainment Network"
I saw this news. Being that the name change isn't accompanied by any nonsense I could care less.
As far as the whole consoles serving as a media hub thing... I quite enjoy using my PS3 as a media center, even though it's very stubborn until you get it set up properly. Once you have a good media center that's able to transcode and stream codecs the PS3 doesn't like in real time, streaming videos to the PS3 is awesome. Also serves as a nice music player for when I'm cooking or doing something that doesn't involve me being glued to the couch. I haven't bothered trying to get my 360 set up as a media center because the dashboard looks absolutely awful and I'm never going to pay for a gold account so there's really no point. My 360 serves as my Lost Odyssey playing machine and that's about it.

Yeah, I always say it but I used to dog on PS3's menu all the time, but now I vastly prefer it over each and every 360 change by the year. Ugh, just keep it simple and don't change it... lol.

I just appreciate that Sony doesn't throw lots of ads in your face. There's ads in the PSN Store, but at least it's all in one place and you're there to buy stuff anywayXeogred wrote:Yeah, I always say it but I used to dog on PS3's menu all the time, but now I vastly prefer it over each and every 360 change by the year. Re: Sony changing PSN to "Sony Entertainment Network"
Ditto. I don't mind that either. I don't mind consoles being universal machines nowadays, though I like how they were in the past. But yeah, the 360 is just utterly obnoxious about all the social media and services, emphasizing them more than games practically. That's the obvious vibe I get navigating the crappy dashboard.
Re: Sony changing PSN to "Sony Entertainment Network"
I think I've actually used the Xbox maybe once since the big dashboard update... My primary concern with these consoles as media devices is that they have no lifespan. When the next generation comes, all these services are going to shut down and we'll be left with crippled devices.
Re: Sony changing PSN to "Sony Entertainment Network"
I thought the change was related to Nintendo Network
What's next, Microsoft Network?

I thought this was so they could trademark it. Sci Fi was to generic.Well, it's better than when Sci Fi changed to Syfy, if you wanna talk about really dumb name changes

Doesn't stop it from being asinine.awesomenick wrote:I thought this was so they could trademark it. Sci Fi was to generic.Well, it's better than when Sci Fi changed to Syfy, if you wanna talk about really dumb name changes
