The line up is much better than 3DS' launch, and it does appeal more for Western gamers than Japanese gamers (they are waiting for MonHun... agh!). Now I do wish Sony can extend the early bonus (8GB memory card + 1 PSN game) for wi-fi only model as well, do I really need 3G???
I don't want to troll, but of those games only Rayman interests me and even that not really, since there is a superior version on the PS3.

3DS at least had a turn based strategy game on launch which still interests me (and I'll probably buy if I ever get a 3DS).

What's Little Deviants? I see it mentioned a lot. If it good original software?

I do respect your opinion, as not every game will please everyone, but at least there is certain degree of diversity.

Little Deviants is supposedly what WarioWare is for the PS Vita: series of mini-games that utilize the functions of the PS Vita - no serious storyline or complex control layout; just using both touch screens (at least for the demo that I tried) and built-in gyro sensor (to move or shake), but I don't know more about it. And I don't think this game should cost much (@ USD $30) unless reviewers are able find something very worthwhile.

Ok true enough. Although I feel it's targeted more to the "young male" demographic, part of which I never felt cause of my gaming taste, but I guess that's a viable strategy (see Xbox 360. For 5 years that was its only market and it did ok), so let's hope it does well.

Then maybe one day I'll buy one as well as a 3DS :D

So for those of you who are picking one up on launch day, what games do you expect to pick up from the launch day lineup? I have Uncharted, Wipeout, Lumines, and Ultimate MvC3 ordered and I'm planning to pick up Super Stardust, Motorstorm RC and maybe another PSN game or two during the week it releases. There's lots of cool stuff on the horizon for March and April too :)

I will say that it is mildly infuriating that the games are going to arrive a week before the system to play them on gets here (I don't want 3G, so no early bundles for me :( )

Honestly, part of the reason the PSP was so far outpaced by the DS was that, outside of JRPGs, all the system had was inferior ports of console titles. So far, that's mostly what I'm seeing with the Vita. (I'm a huge Wipeout fan though, so I might be swayed yet)

I own ~75 or so PSP games, and I think less than 10 of them are ports, inferior or otherwise. People who think that the PSP library is just a deluge of inferior versions of games that appeared on other systems clearly have no idea what they are talking about.

I spent all my money on a good PC so unfortunately no pre-order for me.

Um dude, no offense but from the titles you have pictured here:

http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... =28&t=9557

All but Patapon, Prinny, and Metal Gear Acid, are ports or games you can find better versions of on home consoles (think LittleBigPlanet (my game of the year at the time) and LittleBigPlanet PSP which was average at best).

I'm not saying the system didn't have some amazing games (specially RPGs), but imo it didn't have a good enough spread of genres. And it didn't help that it started JUST like the PSP Vita has. Ports or portable versions of PS2 games (PS3 for the vita) and many many many many racing games.

The success of the Gameboy was built on Tetris and Pokemon (games you couldn't really find on NES and SNES), and even its Super Mario games were different enough to warrant play, and didn't feel like stripped down versions of their console big brothers.

The most interesting games on DS weren't Super Mario 64 DS and Rayman DS, it was Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Brain Age (ok not for us, but for many people), Castlevania, Pokemon ect. ect.

It was games which took advantage of the hardware and gave the system a "flavor" of its own for people to remember it by.

I think the GBA was hurt by Nintendo's reliance on SNES ports, but 3rd parties picked up the slack (and boy did they pick up the slack BIG TIME).

I want the PSP Vita to succeed. But it needs more games of its OWN to make me feel like "I want this bad".

The 3DS still hasn't done that for me, and there are actually 3 games I'm interested in (Phoenix VS Layton, Phoenix 5 (which was just announced) and Mario Kart 7). I just think that Uncharted is hardly the system seller.

The DS was the first and last foray for me into handheld gaming. With Android in tow I play the occasional touch-screen game in bite-sized sessions.. I've had a 2nd hand PSP w/CFW for about a year and I've yet to finish a single game on the thing.

The competition from iOS and Android devices is well-deserved, and frankly I don't give a toss if it's no longer viable to release those dedicated platforms with their overpriced titles.

That's an old picture. I thought ports meant "same game, new platform." In that picture I only count Maverick Hunter X and Puzzle Quest as games that were released as ports. Some of the games like Twisted Metal Head on or MGS Peace Walker got ported years later to the PS2, so I don't really count them as "ports" when they appeared on the PSP far in advance.

I should clarify that I'm not counting collections/compilations, which had been my major PSP focus a year or so ago when that pic was taken. Even then, most of the collections/compilations are exclusive to or changed for the PSP.

I'm not saying the system didn't have some amazing games (specially RPGs), but imo it didn't have a good enough spread of genres. And it didn't help that it started JUST like the PSP Vita has. Ports or portable versions of PS2 games (PS3 for the vita) and many many many many racing games.
Oh, so by port you mean any game that is part of a series? So Super Mario Land is a port of Super Mario Bros? Metroid Prime Hunters is a port of Metroid Prime?
The success of the Gameboy was built on Tetris and Pokemon (games you couldn't really find on NES and SNES)
Tetris was on NES before GB.
Even its Super Mario games were different enough to warrant play, and didn't feel like stripped down versions of their console big brothers.
Again, have you played these so-called "ports"? Resistance and Killzone are NOTHING like their PS3 counterparts, nor are games like R-Type Command and countless others. The God of War games bear some similarity, which is pretty damn jaw-dropping and worth celebrating in my book.
The most interesting games on DS weren't Super Mario 64 DS and Rayman DS, it was Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Brain Age (ok not for us, but for many people), Castlevania, Pokemon ect. ect.

I happened to like the PSP because I don't have to use a stylus. It's a preference thing, not a "this is clearly better" thing.

I want the PSP Vita to succeed. But it needs more games of its OWN to make me feel like "I want this bad".
I agree it needs more original titles, and there are a bunch in the pipeline. Still, I won't lie that a part of the appeal of the system is portable console-style gaming. I don't see why that has to be a downside.
I just think that Uncharted is hardly the system seller.
It will move units, but you are right that the system needs more fresh IPs. Still, Nintendo is hardly the model to follow there...

EDIT: Here's a more recent pic: http://i429.photobucket.com/albums/qq17 ... 48258b.jpg Ignoring compilations, I count 12 ports of games that previously appeared on another platform at the time of release. The vast majority of those are RPGs for which the PSP port is now considered the best port...
