Why aren't shmups coming to PS3?

Don't you think that making these games more widely available to the public would bring the genre out of niche-dom and actually create an environment where we could see shmups thrive?

Not sure if this is true or not but I do remember hearing that Ketsui was originally planned as a PS3 launch title but Sony canceled it because (obviously) an arcade game from 2003 doesn't show off the "power" of the PS3. This coupled with the fact that CAVE can port their arcade games to the 360 in less than a week's time (cost effective) well.... the rest is history.

It is kinda funny, however, considering Sony's previous support of the genre, that the PS3 would be so lacking in the shmups dept. I'm sure there are many shmups fans who bought a PS3 at launch expecting it to be the console of choice for the genre...

Yeah but most of the people willing to buy said SHMUPs own a ps3 over a 360.. I know I did for about a year or so..

Because most of those people are JRPG fans and PS3 >>> 360 in terms of available titles..
