FYI -- PS3 has Deadly Premonition too. Just it's called Red Seeds Profile. I know several of us (besides myself) own this version here.

I know- but isn't it in Japanese? I wanted to play it safe and assume OP couldn't speak it...

The dialogue is all in English, but personally I hate having to hunt through Japanese menus.

At least it wasn't Japanese dialog, that's what makes the game priceless.

Every co-worker with middle school aged kids has a 360. Every adolescent I see shopping at GameStop is for 360. It's weird. I'm guessing a lot of it is "I want the console my friends have," but I guess I assumed that age group would flock to the Wii -- both Wii and 360 haivng similiar price-points.

The main reason I see for that is that the 360 hit first, was far cheaper initially, and came out of the gate with (at the very least) a more consistent online strategy. The first year or so of PSN saw Sony scrambling to add features in for parity, and it still doesn't quite match up (lack of universal voice chat, for example). Nintendo's offerings in that area are laughable.

The original XBox was easily the stronger online/network multiplayer contender too. People playing Halo 2 multiplayer like that bought a 360 to play Halo 3 the same way.

I agree, it's the "I want the console my friends have" thing, but in extension "I want to be on the same online platform as my friends", which for the U.S. is just more likely to be Live than PSN.

Plus until a few months ago had a much better game library. For the Longest time the only good game for PS3 was Metal Gear Solid 4, plus the Xbox 360 had great RPG's like Mass Effect.

These should give you a good sense of some of the best FPS modern gaming has to offer that feel like an advancement in gaming history.

*fixed

also, ug FPS...

Forgot to mention the first Mass Effect was not released for the PS3, which is the only way to start off the series as it carries over your saves to the next game in line, so kind of hard to get the full effect of the story when you can't play the first part.

Valkyrie-Favor wrote:All 3 consoles are great. I primarily play PS1 and PSP games but they all have something to offer. That said, X360 doesn't have much to offer that's not better on PS3 or Wii - except the shmups. If you like shmups it's a great console.

Wii has a lot of "real" games on it. I prefer buttons too but some have really good motion controls and some have none at all. Those are the ones to go for. Aiming in Metroid Prime 3 is great for example. Skyward Sword has good controls, and it's worth playing even if you don't think it's up to modern standards. Okami is good either way. It would let you catch up on Cube games you missed too, and there are a lot of good ones. Retro compilations will make rare/old school games cheaper. Also: the RPGs. There are very few, but they're awesome. Fire Emblem and, in April, XENOBLADE. Which is probably worth the price of a Wii. New Donkey Kong rocks too.

PS3 has a lot of crap and if you don't like new-school game design you won't like inFamous, Uncharted, or the tons of similar games. But the racing games are excellent, the sports games are great (if you're into it, I'm not really), the 2D fighters are must-have. SFIV, Tekken 6 and BlazBlue will make any fighter fan very, very happy. And these are all multiplats. Gotta remember Gran Turismo and the others. There are also some great RPGs new and old, Japanese and Western both. Lower amount, but some good ones. Valkyria Chronicles, Ni No Kuni, and White Knight Chronicles II are cool exclusives. Multiplat RPGs like Disgaea, Vandal Hearts, and others are good too. Western RPGs are more obvious - Elder Scrolls, Amalur, Mass Effect/Fallout/Whatever. Ultimate Genesis Collection is the single best deal in gaming history.

But, if you're getting a new console and don't need current gen, get a PS2. Best console in my book. The variety and quality is unmatched even though there's a lot of shovelware.

As for handhelds: PSP rocks. Its games are the cheapest right now - many cheaper than NES games. The console-style games at the beginning of its life were sloppy and lame but now it has a ton of awesome old-school games and cool takes on new ones - Ace Combat X, Ridge Racer, Wipeout Pure/pluse Outrun 2006, Guilty Gear and BlazBlue once again. Retro compilations once again (must have Gradius Collection). And if you're a fan, a ton of really high quality JRPGs. Most of them are PS1 as far as structure and style goes, but with gorgeous 2D or decent 3D with cutscenes by Production IG and everything. Originals like Jeanne D'Arc, Tactics Ogre, Hexyz Force and Ys 7 are lots of fun. There are upgraded remakes like Lunar Silver Star and older Ys games, and straight ports like Valkyrie Profile and FF Tactics. I'm a big PSP fan.

Though the Xbox 360 does have the best racing game ever, Forza 4 which completely craps all over that sorry excuse Sony calls Gran Tourismo 5.

While true, I think the scale of it is a bit off - the PS3 had a bit more than just one good exclusive earlier on (Uncharted was there, Motorstorm, Resistance, inFamous, and so on, depending on taste). I'd say it's been longer than just the past few months that things have changed. Perhaps more the last couple years.

There was certainly a while where MS had more exclusivity deals going on though. At one point, the 360 was the better platform for JRPGs... Just didn't last is all, though some of the early titles are still exclusives (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, etc).

was just putting it out there. For a while I was upset that it was a 360 exclusive (or so I thought), so when I found that it was indeed ported to PS3, I had to hunt it down. The menus are really no big deal to get around even if you can't read any Japanese.

It's all a matter of preferrence. When it comes to current games, I am an Xbox 360 and Wii gamer. I personally don't see the point of getting a PS3 for myself as the libraries for both 360 and PS3 are essentially the same w/ a few exclusives here and there and I already own a BD player, so I am just not interested. I have nothing against the PS3, I've played it on several occassions at my brother-in-law's house, I just prefer Xbox 360 overall.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

Gran Turismo 5 is pretty great. A lot has changed since launch.

Also, in terms of simulation. iRacing 2.0 beats the crap out of both of them. While GT and Forza try to find a good middle ground between simulation and fun, iRacing just does away with that concept and is simulation all the way. It doesn't even appear to support any control method BUT a wheel. I've been dying to try it out, especially since all the autocross events I'd normally go too die out in the cold winter and wont be returning until April or May.

While everybody has different tastes in gaming, I'd say this is a massive pile of bullshit. Name me one other "great" RPG the 360 had before Mass Effect.

There were other RPGs on 360 before Mass Effect, but as far as I know they were all average or mediocre JRPGs.
