What's your "main focus" when it comes to collecting?

At the moment, DS games, 3DS games and Super Nintendo games complete with box and instructions. I'm going through a cartridge phase.

I only want games that perk my interest though, or in the case of the SNES, are great games I've played before. I've never understood that, "must have every single game on the system" mindset.

"Main Focus"... now that's a good idea!

Often just the adding of something new becomes the game, and thus I have too many I've not even played. :|
Plus I really love the uniform look of, say a bunch of NES games on a shelf.

I go through phases. I recently realised that ps2 has an awesome library and most games are cheap and easy to find, so that is what im focusing on at the moment. snes and nes are a constant and when ive got the cash I pick up a wii game or two. I only buy games I have previously enjoyed or are highly recommended.

Its all about the Sega Mega Drive & Master System for me. I like to have nice complete copies of great games and games I enjoyed growing up, but loose carts are attractive too. Preference is for the UK versions (only because the AUS ones have those horrible monochrome blue manuals).

I have the major Sega and Nintendo systems from 8-bit to Whatever-the-Dreamcast-is eras. I usually aim to collect for whatever I am enjoying at the time. For instance, I have two different pokemon 64's and 3 unique pokemon 64 controllers (despite not ever getting into the pokemon games and barely playing 64). Currently getting into gameboy since I aquired a GBA-SP (playing pokemon pinball right now). But really, I could lose the whole lot except the cream of my Mega drive collection, and a few MS games.

I have tried getting into collecting for the disc based systems, but it doesn't really do it for me. Cartridges all the way personally, and I'll make an exception for those sweet little gamecube discs.

This is pretty simple for me.... SEGA. Mostly shmups, fighters, beat-em ups and brawlers. With the occasional platformer and run and gun. All CIB for any Sega system, when I am not buying Naomi or Neo-Geo stuff.

Dreamcast

Dreamcast

Dreamcast

Dreamcast

Dreamcast

(notably, the rare, obscure, and imported good stuff that never reached here. Also good arcade ports)

This is an easy one for me - Neo Geo AES and Pocket. I've got pictures of my collection on my sig.

I also collect TurboGrafx-16 since it's such a small and unique library of games.

JRPGs that I can afford, classic Atari 2600 and NES games, and any new hardware I run across.

Nice. The reason that I collect and want to acquire a shitload of games for the nes and n64 is because they are the most interesting consoles to me (and the games usually aren't too terribly expensive). Forever ago I went through a list of all (probably more like most) games made for both systems and ended up wanting to at least try almost every single one. I am pretty sure it's not within my budget to ever acquire every single game ever released for the systems but I don't mind having a big ass stack of all of the loose nes carts I can get my hands on. And I don't know why I find the N64 so interesting, I've just realized that even the "shitty" games I've played so far are somehow charming to me. As for Saturn, I mostly am interested in arcade ports because they're pretty awesome, light gun games and of course "shmups". The Genesis for me is just quirky (which I like), and I'm switching to that instead of collecting for my snes since I never play it anymore and I'm just keeping exclusive snes titles that I don't want to part with because I can't get them anywhere else.
Wow I doubt anyone read all of that. haha

Shmups.

In specific, vertical scrolling 3:4 aspect ratio console ports. I find them heavenly, and it lets me collect for several systems. I have spent way too much on these types of games
