For me, it was playing it at the arcade at the mini golf center and then 10 years later in NRX. :D

Playing Metal Slug X in Japan shortly before 3 came out was great, but my fave is still Metal Slug 2. Metal Slug is almost like a spoof of Contra. SNK got to the Parodius of Contra games before Konami did.

Someone is loaded. As for the rest of us, I guess the MS Anthology will have to do. Honestly, I would love to own and play the original Neo Geo version of MS 3 because it is just that awesome. Maybe one day I will...if I found a lamp with a genie inside.

The best way to play Metal Slug is a good 'ol MVS cabinet. I spent many quarters on Metal Slug back in the day. It's pretty good on MAME too as long as you have a decent controller. And I'm actually suprised the emulation on the SNK Acrade Classics for PS2 isn't half bad. I'm having fun blasting away, but i really need to get the Anthology one of these days.

Definetly one of the best game series out there. I've been playing for years. Most recently via the MS anthology on my PSP and then the games on saturn with a ram cart and now I've been playing via emulation on my DC with an agetec arcade stick. Sadly never had a real neo version before to much $$$ have played in arcades though. Also played online via gametap. I also have MS3 on xbox live, hope to see some of you there?

Great stuff!

Metal Slug, very awesome. I kind of suck at them, but the overall look, music and humor are great. You're tried Alien Hominid right? Pretty much an homage to Metal Slug

The Metal Slug series really brings you back to those dark little arcades back in the old days. I never played any of them in the arcades, but everything about the games just oozes arcade flavor even when playing them at home in front of a tv. Watching someone play through them on one life is a thing of beauty(now if only I could do that:)

Anthology will definitely be picked up by me at some point. I already have Metal Slug 3 on Xbox and MS 4/5 on the PS 2. Again, I kind of suck at them, but I still enjoy picking them up and playing them every now and them. They sort of embody what this site is all about. It doesn't get much more retro than Metal Slug

When I read this a couple nights ago I had a dream that I went to the store and purchased Alien Hominid right over the counter. I think it was an omen that I need to try and find a copy. The search begins. Thanks for the recomendation.

Metal slug is Simplicity of Both epicness and Badassness.

I love the Metal slug series and I will commemorate it by making an anime dedicated to It. If you want to hear more pls reply... It's currently W.I.P. but I'm working on it as of this day. Here's a sneak peak of my progress. It's nothing special but worth for saying thank you to The Metal slug Staff for making it a great game.

Thank God for re-releases, otherwise we would be selling our children for a copy of Metal Slug and an AES.
