sega games vs snes games. snes still more expensive

I haven't read through all seven or so pages before me so, please excuse me if this has been pointed out before:

SEGA allows Genesis games in particular to be used as often as humanly possible for stuff like digital downloads and disc based compilations far, far more than Nintendo has.

Basically, these games can be obtained and played with very little effort and for very little cost. I can have almost every Genesis game I ever wanted to play again, on both the Sega Collection on PS2 and Sonic's Ultimate Collection on PS3, for roughly $30.

Simply put, there isn't anything like these compilation releases for SNES games. If you want to play SNES classics like Super Metroid or Mario RPG, you're buying a Wii and a points card, or you're hitting eBay. Either way, coughing up a lot of money. This is the biggest reason for the general price differences, in my opinion.



The other argument, and people always have their personal preferences, is that some games just aren't the same. Multiplatform games get pretty even treatment these days, but that was far from the case in the 16 bit era. Anyone who's played Jurassic Park or Sunset Riders on both SNES and Genesis know exactly what I'm talking about.

Man watching that chunkiness was painful. I can understand getting console ports of Doom for collection reasons, but for Doom I & II, if you have a computer that is on the internet, it will run them better than the console versions.

Nintendo games are normally more expensive than Sega in the uk but there are 2 very good reasons for this.
1) Sega Master System and Mega Drive outsold the NES and SNES so there are more Sega carts going about.
2) Nintendo has the larger modern fanbase, it is no secret that every zelda fan will try and obtain every main title in the same way that every mario fan will want to own every mario platformer and mario kart game. These games have not been re-relased on a disk, nearly all the major 1st party sega games have, why have an original, slow, 50hz sonic the hedgehog when you can have a fast 60hz sonic and 39 other games on a disk?

Read the bit where I said "in the UK". Sega battered Nintendo in europe. Mattel did such a bad job with the nes that the sega master system walked all over it.
