I found POR to be more creative, original and fun than Order of Ecclesia. Plus, I like that it has a more traditional castle layout while Order of Ecclesia was mostly just a bunch of random stages on a world map.
I prefer POR much more than OOE too. The music, the levels, the style of game: it's one of the closest handheld Castlevania games to SotN.

I spent a lot of time completing that 100% with stock machines, lol.
respect. i've been playing the original f-zero on SNES and its difficulty would be manageable IF you could attack the other ships. it's a huge pain that you can't and have to try avoiding them on these narrow lanes and hope you get lucky. grr. anyone know if f-zero X is easier or harder overall?

Too high of difficulty

Post by DinnerX »

Any games you haven't beaten yet because they are too difficult? What makes them so hard? Do you intend to beat them one day?

The Adventures of Bayou Billy comes to mind for me. I can't even figure out how to beat the first level.

I haven't found a pattern to the enemies behavior or a good way to avoid damage. The situation seems pretty hopeless. One day I may settle down and beat it, but there are so many other games to play I don't know when that will be.

Bayonetta on hard gave me significant grief. Sometimes I'd have an amazing rhythm going with witch time and later mashing buttons and finally dashboarding out of game. :x

I'll finish it eventually.

The original Crash Bandicoot. To even get to a save point you need to pass the bonus rounds. If you don't the first time, you loose your chance.

Just started Deus Ex. I'm playing on easy but I still find the game really hard.

Only talking about games from my own personal collection....

Ninja Gaiden (NES) - This is kind of a given. I've had the game for about 18 years. Still can't get past the cliffs in level five (I think).
Ninja Gaiden II (NES) - I've only had this for a few months, but it's destroyed me every time I've tried to play it.
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (DS) - Supposedly one of the "easier" games in the series. Has a really awkward control scheme (uses the stylus only), I can't get past the second boss.
Super C (NES) - I can beat the original Contra, but can't get through this one.
Operation C (Game Boy) - Only has five levels, but you only get two continues. I can get pretty close to the end, but there's this sequence where you're on an elevator and have enemies dropping down from the sky plus lasers shooting from both sides. Ownage.
Metal Slug 3 (Xbox) - This isn't arcade style like the other console ports. In other words, once you get game over there's no way to pump in a virtual quarter and start fresh from where you left off. Instead you get kicked back to the beginning of the level. It's brutally difficult.
Metal Slug Advance (GBA) - You have a life bar (!!!) in this game, but it doesn't seem to help me much. One of the bosses is this tank-like machine that exists "above" the screen and fires missles at you (think of the first bosses from Battletoads and Turtles in Time). I can't get past it.
Ghosts 'n Goblins (NES) - Self-explanatory. I think I may have beat the first level... once.
Metroid (NES) - I'm sure I could beat it these days with maps and FAQs and whatnot. Just need to find the time.
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES) - Same deal as Metroid, could probably beat it today but never could as a kid. Death Mountain sucked.
Castle Shikigami 2 (PS2) - Well, I "beat" the game on easy which gives you one of those "Now try this on Normal Mode you wimp" endings. I shall try again. I suck at shmups.

And I'm sure there's many, many more. These are the ones that jump out at me though.

Ibara (ps2) - This game is already head-bashingly difficult in its arcade itiration. The ps2 port is really gnarly, as they took out ALL the slowdown. Stage 2 usually ends me.

What's the consensus on the difficulty of the Donkey Kong Country games? I've not played 3, but I find them bare-knuckle hard, 2 more so, and I only played them for the first time at 22, so go figure.

Position yourself 2/3 to the right flat on your stomach facing the left. Keep shooting.

You will barely have to move to get to the top...

I 1CC'd Operation C...
