id has gone from being one of the top three PC-centric developers to being just another random company.

iD sold out in 2009. Can't expect innovation from them now that they are a subsidiary.

I don't think anyone's expected innovation since Doom 3 was not what people wanted.

So far the game looks like what it should be, whichis great. Sure, the art direction is kind of bland and the palette is kind of garish but I can overlook those.

To be fair, the original X-Com didn't have much in the way of nice art either. It's only defining characteristic was the b-movie style aliens, which they appear to be keeping in tact for this one.
