BTW, is this game completable without spoilers? Or should I expect to run into areas where the only way to know how to proceed is to read the hint guide?
I have beat 3 dungeons so far. I'm not using a FAQ or walkthrough or anything, but I did print out an overworld map so I can kind of see where the hell I am at least. The game is meant for experimenting. But so far, no puzzle has been much harder than "oh dead end? Push a block. Or kill everything on the screen. Or chop a tree. Or light a candle." Etc. So if you've played Zelda without a guide, you should be able to handle this.
There is a great map on GameFAQs that has an overworld map of locations of everything you need. I feel that is necessary only because this overworld is much larger than Zelda's was.
And yes, I'm on the 4th dungeon as well. I just got the 3rd dungeon's item (won't spoil it) and I have not went anywhere else. I may play it tonight, or do the "TR Shmup" Truxton a bit more tonight. Don't want to finish the TR game in a week

dude, I spoke too soon. I'm on the IV's dungeon and have no idea what to do. The room to the right gave me a key after killing all enemies, but now I can't figure out how to proceed. Have you figured it out?

The opening cinematic was cool, though.
I was thinking the same thing... for me it's the aiming (four directional movement) since only half of your character can swing a sword and the other half can only use the shield.
I am starting to get used the aligning my character up to attack and will probably start playing for real tonight.

^ what SB said. Zelda games do not control well, nor does this. Aimless wandering is no fun when everything kills you. At least in Zelda you have a projectile weapon.
I used this to figure out where the first dungeon was:
