So we're half way through 2011...how's everyone doing?

I am actually doing pretty well, overall.

On the Nintendo franchises front, I played a Metroid game to completion and have two more I plan to finish this summer. I also have a Zelda game or two in my sights by year's end. On the RPG front, I have played 4 RPGs through to completion, which is a lot for me (this was something I wasn't so sure I'd be able to stick to). I have done moderately well with doing more PC gaming, but still have some time to meet my goals there. By the end of the summer challenge, I will have 4 or 5 PC games under my belt for the year, which isn't too bad.

Collecting-wise I have done so-so. I've picked up quite a few shmups (especially for the PCE) and pinball games, but not as many launch games/end games.
Ok, end of year assessment time. How'd you do?

My goals from the OP:

play more RPGs - success!
play more classic Nintendo franchises - fail! (I played one Metroid game)
play more PC games - fail! (I played about the same amount)

collect pinball games - success!
collect more shmups - success!
finish up majority of PS1 and PS2 collection - success! (my want list only has a few left :))
pick up more launch games/end games - fail! (only a few of these)

So you need to post an updated class picture like I did in the pinball thread. :)

I need to do better at that. I have Pin-Bot, I have Tiger Electronics Handheld Pinball, I also have Crue Ball for Genesis. But I really, REALLY want the Williams Classic Pinball Collection for XBox 360 as well as all the Marvel Pinball Tables on XBLA. Pinball on NES would be nice to come across for cheap, too. Could never get into Sonic Spinball, but it's on my Sonic Mega Collection Plus.

Just getting into it other than my childhood favorite, Pin-Bot, really. So I don't know a lot of good home-ports.

Buy more retro consoles: Success! - Acquired a Game Gear, Commodore 64, a replacement PS2 and an Xbox.

Buy some more games for neglected consoles: Partial success.
I listed Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, PS1, NES, SNES, NGPC, Mega Drive and N64 as consoles to buy more for. I got a whole bunch of Saturn N64 and NGPC games, but NES, SNES, and PS2 got no love. Dreamcast and Mega Drive got 1 game a piece.

Get a 3DS: Success!

Get to 5 or less unbeaten games per console - Partial Success!
I got all my consoles down to 5 or less unbeaten games just before Christmas, then got LOADS of new games over the holidays, putting several of my consoles way back above 5.

Beat some Metroid and Final Fantasy Games - Success!
I beat Final Fantasy 3 and 9, Metroid 1, and Metroid Prime 1 and 2.

Overall I did pretty well at achieving my targets for last year. I'll have to come up with some interesting ones for this year.

mjmjr25 wrote:Wow - i'd like to say game more, collect less - but I have a hard time doing that. I am very into aesthetics, similarities, even numbers - all that. Every time I think i'm set for awhile I notice i'm 7 short of this or I now have 2 of this somehow and end up consumed by having to finish another collection.

So I guess I have each, gaming and collecting.

Collecting -
Finish N64 JP Exclusives, CIB - FAIL - Sold off all but 1/2 a dozen.
Finish Dreamcast US - Success - not the library, but the 75 titles I want
More Headway on Dreamcast JP - Huge Success, only 3 to go
More Headway on US Saturn - Success, acquired A. Odyssey, PD Saga, Shin. Legions and a few others - only 5 to go
And building stronger core for:
NEO GEO MVS - Success, need about 45-50 for the library
Wii - Success, still need a few big dogs, really thought a few would've dropped in price by now, but they haven't (new mario bros, dkc returns, pokemon games)
DS - Moderate Success, added about 20 titles, but i'm hardly playing handhelds anymore.

Gaming -
Mario Galaxy 1 - Success, beaten
Kirby's Epic Yarn - FAIL - haven't played once in the last year
Little King's Story - Mild Success - not beaten yet
Ivy the Kiwi - Success, beaten
Those are the 4 i'm excited to beat

OH AND MY BIGGEST GOAL - Get my wife more into gaming. I bought her a DSI XL and a bunch of puzzle type games. - Massive fail, no headway on this at all - not even close. That DSi XL has about 6 hours of gameplay on it, all from a crosswords game on a family trip this past summer
Overall moderate success - I fell into arcade stuff pretty hard after acquiring a couple cabs early in the year, then a lot of my goals changed a lot - though I did play and beat a lot more games.

Also, I got a ps3 early in the year and have spent a ton of time playing online w/sevin, as well as a few others from racket.

I didn't post in this thread, but I had two goals in 2011: Get a DSi XL, and upgrade my PC. I succeeded in both.
