2011 Gaming and Collecting Goals

Post by dsheinem »

I've had a lot of fun this year with the Games Beaten 2010 thread, and I'm sure we'll see a 2011 thread pop up on or around January 1.

That thread made me think: I am curious what kinds of goals others have for next year in terms of both playing and collecting games.

For example, I know that I want to try to give some of the classic Nintendo franchises and games more play next year, and am planning to go through some Zelda, Mario, and Metroid games that I've never gotten very far in. I also want to rack up a few more RPGs, as I played more in that genre this year than I have in a long time (and thoroughly enjoyed it). I also want to devote more time to PC gaming next year.

As far as collecting, I am leaning towards perhaps building a collection of pinball video games. Not sure yet on that one. I'd also like to round out my shmup collection with a few more titles that I have been meaning to pick up, and to potentially finish picking up the remaining titles I am interested in for the PS1 and PS2. I guess my other big collecting goal is to work on acquiring more launch games/end games for my blog...

What about you?

Collect less and play more. Buy games I actually care to play. I spent the end of 2010 clearing out the games I simply don't care to play and bought a ton of games I had wanted to get but had held off on because of the cost incurred by collecting previously. Reversed it and forward I go!

I plan on building my NES & SNES collections up more. I'd like to have a few of those repo carts made with all those fan translated & unreleased games that America never saw. Theres even a ton of those top notch rom hacks that have peaked my interest lately. Problem is it gets very expensive.

Buy less, play more.
Finish Super Mario Bros 3 and Metroid on the NES.
Finally play Zelda: Majora's Mask.
Give more love to my Gamecube. I've got a whole bunch of great games I haven't played. My wife is buying me a Wavebird for Christmas so that should help.
Mostly harmless

That Games Beaten thread really helped me play more - you should certainly get involved next year. I also intend to spend some time this year briefly playing all those games I have on the shelf but have never really tried out to determine whether or not I want to hang on to them.

Lots of games I've picked up due to good price and/or reccomendation. Not all of them can stay.

Expect a late January deluge to my trade list...

Like everyone else, play more, collect less.

I'm trying to start by making my Christmas list short to the point of having only games that will allow GameCube LAN and online play, with the exception of Conker's Bad Fur Day. Unfortunately, Steam is not helping. >_<

there are 3 or 4 "hard-to-find" sega cd titles i still need. so my collecting goal is to get those and then i will work on getting the more expensive titles for the system. in fact, one just popped up on ebay over night and it only took 15 or so minutes for somebody to snag it up. DAMMIT! i'm now going to have to start setting my alarm every 15 minutes throughout the night to check newly listed items.

i play enough video games. i don't think i need a new goal. but i should sit farther from the tv when playing or i might go blind.
if you took a shit, please put it back
