Quick question, I just beat both acts for the first three levels then I chose to take on meatal sonic. Do I keep doing challenges to get three keys to fight the boss and move on?
I'm asking this because I see a knuckles level that looks straight from "Adventure"from the DC and I think I want to avoid that one...at least for now.

To get the keys, you only have to do one challenge in any given level. Once you finish that challenge, you can grab that areas key and move on to the level level's challenges.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Yeah, one challenge per each area and then you get the key for that area and three keys unlocks the boss. Since fighting the boss gets you a chaos Emerald, it feels like the challenge missions substitute for the bonus stages you had to beat in the 16-bit games to get Chaos Emeralds. You should have gotten an emerald for beating Metal Sonic too I believe

It's good that they don't force you to do most of the challenges. Some of them are pretty good though. One is a 2D stage that requires you to use Tails to fly through the level and it feels like a throwback to the 16-bit games where Tails would help Sonic. Like that boss fight against Robotnick in Sonic 3 where you're fighting him in mid-air while holding on to Tails

Ok, so Metal Sonic wasn't the boss, I thought he was since I got a Chaos Emerald out of it. I have one key so I will go back and beat two more challenges to get more keys and then take on the boss.

It's actually a throwback to S3/S3&K (not S&K, as Tails was not present) co-op. P2 could have Tails fly, then P1 could have Sonic hop into his arms. P2 would control the both of them.

Which area is that one in? I haven't bothered to go back and do many challenges because most the ones I played were pretty lame.

I haven't even beat the final boss yet since it sucked, but I've gone back and played the cool levels a few times.

If my memory serves me right, it's one of the five classic challenges in CPZ.

I have money to buy this, I just haven't done it yet. I've finally saved up enough to buy a decent desktop so I think I'll wait till I have my hands on it.
