Re: Is Gamestop punching holes in the game covers?
I've seen small holes like these on some audio CDs and some DVDs
Some stores wont take these guys in for trade in cause like others have said here they are product taken at a loss and are not for resale.
Some of these are Freebie gifts from Manufacturers and Producers or Studios to promote upcomming games/movies and music. They are given in pre-shows or to certain people meant to review it for some news/net review.
They may also have a sticker that says 'Not for Resale', 'To be returned to Studio upon Demand', 'For Demonsration Purposes only' and similar stuff. And some say 'For your Consideration' These guys are movie studio promos given to people that may have an influential vote for some awards.
I have seen stuff like this in my fleamarkets.
Sometimes DVDs have taken a thick knife or soldering tip to it to also make the barcode unscannable. Audio CDs have taken a small drill through the plastic into the barcode to also make them known.
I have some DVD's like this that I bought at some local dollar stores in the past.
Not knowing all the facts, my best guess is that these games may have been from one person that traded them in. He possibly got them as a special promo from a game company and finally after some time decided to sell them to gamestop.
Gamestop can take games without barcodes, they can just type the name in and get the price.
thats what may have happened.

A long time ago, Sony released a demo disc that had a bug that would erase memory cards. To rectify the issue, Sony offered a selection of cheap-ass games that they'd send out to the victims for free. I ordered Sly 2, and it came with one of those loathsome holes punched into the top left of the DVD case. I wish that practice was abolished, I felt cheated twice.

Great, something else I need to keep my eye out for. This wouldn't bother me so much except for the fact that people keep getting me games from GameStop for gifts. Everytime I get something from GameStop, I feel like I'm getting damaged merchandise.

Yep, they are doing it all right. I removed their bar code sticker and found this holy delight.

You've gotta be kidding me. Those holes look to be the size of dimes.

That's just fucking disgraceful... what is it with this company?
Is there any way to see the holes through the sticker somehow? Like a slight indentation? Or do you have to wait 'till getting home to find the nasty surprise? Well, guess I'm done shopping there now...

If it's sealed and in a translucent case, I'd shine a bright LED flashlight through the front/sides and look for the spotlight(s). Otherwise, just open the case and look at the insert directly.Nintendork666 wrote:Is there any way to see the holes through the sticker somehow?
[Edit] Or assume if there's a sticker over the barcode that it's hiding something...
