Re: NES Game Genie orientation
The same thing I always say. Contact cleaner, a plastic eraser, and a light attack with a green scrubby sponge if there's a lot of corrosion to remove.

Looks fine to me, just needs to be cleaned thoroughly. Rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner, like Hobie said. Should be fine. But also note, if that's how the male pins look, the female pins probably aren't much better. You should clean those as well (same as cleaning a console's pins).
Re: NES Game Genie orientation
Also, OP, not sure if you ever figured out why it won't work in a top-loader, but from what I understand, the PCB was made thicker to account for the Game Genie not being able to be depressed within the front-loader model. A thicker PCB meant it would touch all the contacts easily.
When cramming it into a top-loader, the thicker PCB plays against it as the contacts are closer together.
I've read articles about gamers forcing it to fit, but sounds like it can really damage your console.

Re: NES Game Genie orientation

its screwed together with 4 screws behind the back label unless there is a difference between the gold game genie cart and the black one (mine)Ziggy587 wrote:

@vlame
galoob chips face the back of the game genie cart
Sadly the gyromite adapter does not fit inside the game genie cart shell the gyromite adapter PCB just isent as long as the game genie PCB i suppose i could mod the shell to work but that takes away from the manufactured look i wanted to achieve
i was just messing with all this like just today
Re: NES Game Genie orientation
Don't use the Game Genie as an import shell. You will eventually ruin the pins of the toaster NES from the angle the Genie sits. Hobie came up with good method of using a modded attached with a pull cord. If only one game, the Famicom PCB can fit inside the Gyromite cart shell.korn16ftl3 wrote:Sadly the gyromite adapter does not fit inside the game genie cart shell the gyromite adapter PCB just isent as long as the game genie PCB i suppose i could mod the shell to work but that takes away from the manufactured look i wanted to achieve

interesting......but why does that matter dosent the pins on a toaster NES ALWAYS go bad eventuallyCRTGAMER wrote: Don't use the Game Genie as an import shell. what do you mean about the angle the game genie site? do you mean like because the cart cant be pushed down all the way, of does the PCB sit in the shell at a different angle?
Re: NES Game Genie orientation
Ah, good to know. I just assumed it snapped together like Famicom carts. I didn't bother to feel the label out for screw holes.korn16ftl3 wrote:its screwed together with 4 screws behind the back label unless there is a difference between the gold game genie cart and the black one (mine)Ziggy587 wrote:

Re: NES Game Genie orientation
The Game Genie sits at an steeper angle when seated putting extra strain on the NES toaster connector. Eventually the NES console slot pins retain "memory" of the increased bend and no longer make contact with just a NES cart inserted.korn16ftl3 wrote:interesting......but why does that matter dosent the pins on a toaster NES ALWAYS go bad eventuallyCRTGAMER wrote:Don't use the Game Genie as an import shell.
