Picked up a 27" Sony Trinitron CRT with S-video and component with matching stand for $45 today. This is going to go with the other 22" I just got in that big collection. I will dual screen these in my retro room and hook up all consoles to them. Should be fun.

Ah very nice. At this point I dont think I am hooking up more than one component system. My modern systems will be on the main lcd and all the S-video and composite on these tvs in the 'retro room' I think I will put a PS2 in the retro room and a Wii in the main room.

Found a black Gamecube in the box, ok condition, with controller and manual and everything $25.00. I've decided to aim towards having the black cube w/ 4 black controllers. Also PS2 Capcom vs SNK $3.00, Space Invaders Anniversary $7.50, both complete in reasonable condition.

Also picked up Ghost Rider on DVD for $3.95 while I was there.

AND, just won Metal Slug Anthology Wii for $11.55 (postage is the sting in the tail though), hoping to get a bit of that in over Christmas, on my friend's huge nu-skool television (probably not all that amazing, but more impressive than my old crt).

yes. it is a very big difference. perhaps you do not have a good tv?

i dunno i never cared for S-video, hell one time i used it (on my Satellite box) and the damn thing wouldnt let me switch back to A/V or coaxial it just demanded to remain on S-video which irked me i need'd those sound cables LOL

but as far as adding an S-video port (or me hard moding any thing in general) i dont do it to ANY system i only have one of, for a few reasons

1) if i screw up im out a whole console
2) it takes away from the actual value of the system it self, no one whats a mod'd system for there collection if they are a collector. makes me think of some one telling me there comic book or sports card is valuable because they "mod'd" the cover or picture to have a mustache or something lol, just docent seem right to me

i always always always do 2 systems one to keep stock to maintain its original value and another to tinker with if i dont have 2 systems i just dont do it

Dude, that's just stupid. Maybe when some one gives a console a horrible paint job and says, "Hey, I modded a console," then that will hurt the value. But if a console has a quality mod that actually enhances something or adds features, like an S-Video mod, than the value is only going up.

I'm not sure what the X'eye video quality looks like, but if it's anything like the Genesis, the composite is complete shit and S-Video will be the difference between driving a Rolls Royce and taking the bus.

No, this is wrong. Any PC Engine, Neo Geo, Genesis/MD with a video upgrade, Game Gear with a screen upgrade, mod chipped PS1, PS2, Saturn, etc., is always of substantially higher value. I have NEVER seen a case where this is not true!

You ARE in the minority here, yet you claim that you can speak for everyone? My years of experience collecting and selling absolutely demonstrates the exact opposite, and I am sure that I am in the majority here. A simple look online at prices for properly modded systems v stock models demonstrates this equivocally.

You cannot compare game consoles to comics in this way AT ALL! Maybe game software you can (where collectors want CIB, including spine cards, inserts, etc.), but not consoles. Comparing them to cars would be more relevant, where the value goes up if they are properly modded above the stock model.

I would say the original consoles aren't that special to collectors simply because they're readily and cheaply available almost anywhere in their original form. If everyone modded their console and the originals therefore became rare then it will be the other way around.

I actually had a chance to go for that on Craigslist but decided it was too small. Definitely trying to get a 36 inch; it just really makes a big difference. For some reason sitting farther away with a bigger screen versus sitting up close with a smaller screen, despite being the same proportionate size for my vision, are night and day in how it looks and feels. Feels awesome controlling a large sprite. Games like Chrono Trigger really open up versus the DS version for instance. Does anyone else notice this or feel this way?

My dad recently went out to work on the computers for a law firm, and it turns out their biggest client is Nintendo... meaning they also get sent a lot of stuff from them over the years. So not exactly "finds" persay since I didn't snag them, but pretty cool regardless. Pics below.
